    Default Donkey Konga = FUN!!!

I got to play this a few days ago when Mayhem's order arrived from Lik-sang while I was out there visiting, and HOLY CRAP is it a blast!

Nice mix of music ranging from J-Pop to Mambo No. 5 to some Mario remixes...including the rap from the intro to Donkey Kong 64! We didn't have time to figure out what all the options and gameplay were about since everything was in Japanese, but from what we had messed around with it was still pretty damn fun to play.

It's pretty easy on the easy and medium levels, but once you hit the harder ones, good luck! Even with only four "things" to do (left bongo, right bongo, both bongos, and clap - yes, clap) it still gets insane after awhile.

Multiplayer is definitely the way to go though, with each player getting a separate "track" of the song to play along with to make things a little more interesting.

Anyway, if you can play Japanese Gamecube games, get this thing NOW.

You know, I was looking on the lik-sang site the other day and almost bought this.

Did you play it with the bongo set or with a controller?

Do you have to mod a Gamecube to play this or can a regular US Gamecube play imports?

Griking: you can buy a "Freeloader" from Gamestop, allows imports to play on a GCN.

OK, in lieu of paying money to import the game myself, I'm going to steal Mayhem's apartment and transport it next door to my house. I'll transport QoF's apartment next to that so she doesn't have to travel, plus that'll be four players. Then I can play Donkey Konga.

Thank god I live near a nuke plant or this mass mass transport ray would never get it's power.

From what's been said so far, you'll need a proper Japanese Cube for the Japanese version as the saving is "secured" like it was with Mr Driller Drill Land ie. it won't save properly on anything apart from a real Japanese formatted memory card, something Freeloader can't provide.

Hence US/UK peeps without a Japanese Cube should wait for the proper region release. I hope Namco see sense and release it worldwide! I am also sure the music list will change, hence a reason for me to buy other versions too.

For the record, Mambo #5 in the game is the original version of the classic track, not the recent "singing dancing" version done by... erm... that one-hit wonder guy I can't even remember the name of now!

Last thing I heard was that there was not going to be a U.S. release. This was in a gaming mag, I dont remember which one, but I am not making things up. Correct me if I am wrong (I really want to be wrong...PLEASE TELL ME I'M WRONG!) Another magazine said, however, that the date for the US release was yet to be announced, implying that there will be one, so I really dont know what to think. (hmmm...this post got us nowhere)

i watched a video on it and all the japanese children(if even children yet(4-6) made it look twice as gay as it should have looked. It probably does rock but N is obviously targetting youngins with their commercials. I may have to get it imported but I would rather buy an official US release.......for obvious reasons...

I have been playing ghr drums for years, and have expieremented with hand percussion, so I think this game is right up my ally. I too am waiting for a US release. I dont want to have do deal with all the hassle and expense of importing. Or deal with the technical problems that have been expalined as well...
