Default Manci Games Magazine? What the hell is this?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3071143164

I know, its an eBay auction, but I feel its more suitable here becuase its not about the auction itseld, but the magazine itself

Anyone have any idea about this "classic gaming magazine and price guide"? Id sure like to know [/url]

It's hard to "have an idea" when the magazine hasn't launched yet. I've got my subscription though. There's no such thing as "too much information".

BTW, you can subscribe through mancigames.com. They won't bill you until AFTER the first issue is sent out. I'd personally STAY AWAY from the Ebay auction because you'll end up being charged for that right away - even BEFORE the mag launches. Why in the world would anyone want to go for that?

Any idea what company is publishing this? I particularly don't want to plop down 25.00 for a magazine subscription that isn't backed by a well known source....

I DID just pay 25.00 for the DP guide, CANT WAIT!

    It has Begun:

    Monthly Price Guide

The Becket guide brought alot of profit seekers into the baseball card market and if this magazine makes it it could be the beginning of the end for collecting as we know it.

You got a point, I find a lot of interest in my hobby, and even more so because its MY hobby....no one else around here does it. Now if it becomes big like baseball cards then I believe that were going to have more collectors and more profit seekers thus hindering or ruining our hobby.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. We've been doing this for twelve years... and two years of 'tipping off' collectors in Tips & Tricks. It's not the end of thw world as you know it. It's just the natural progression of a growing hobby. Use it as a tool, not an omen.

Can we take that double post as an omen? Hell, it happens to everything that gets hot. I just hope they don't start charging $5 for a $1 game! Oh wait... they already do.

    Two things:

    1. First, they say that they're the first retrogames price guide. I think we all know that there are many, many others - including the DP Guide - that were here much earlier. Someone may want to set them straight on that assinine claim.

    2. Secondly, "MANCI" is the name for the local Mansfield (Ohio) Correctional Institute - the high-security prison in Ohio. See?

Actually I thought that Manci sounded like a magazine for the "metrosexual" persuasion

Mike Thomasson called me last week. This magazine contacted him and asked him if he wanted to write for them. He asked me if I wanted to be involved (along with several other writers from Chris Cavanaugh's Classic Gamer Magazine.) I told him to have them email. Needless to say, they haven't contacted me.

I love the idea of a classis video game magazine, but I have my doubts about this lasting. Chris C. put out a great product and it had trouble and I don't see this topping that effort. Most (almost 90%) of new start magazines fail within three years. I think the subscriber base is overestimated and advertisers will be very tough to find. I don't see videogame companies wanting to advertise in a magazine for collectors of old videogames and without advertising you have a tough go without charging really high prices per issue. Also, how reliable is a monthy or even four times a year price-guide? Most retro-collectors are flea-market and thrift finders and look for stuff cheap. The DP has it pretty well covered as a price-guide. I may be very very wrong. How well did the Video Game Bible sell? I have it and like it, but did it do well enough to warrant further publications? I can see products from a communuty like DP or AtartiAge doing well (not going to strike it rich though), but to first advertise on Ebay and not promote first here and at AtariAge and/or the NES sites? I will definitely buy the first issue, but I won't sink money into a year subscription.

    Thoughts . . .

    Leonard --

Keep us posted on the magazine plans. I posted some doubts about its viability, but I sure woud love a high-quality classic gaming magazine. I've enjoyed reading Phoenix and your writing in CGM.

    Best of luck --

Monthly price guide? They might as well jam an icepick into their skulls and call it a day. And how are they going to judge it? Where are they getting their game lists? Questions and more questions.

I just hope they don't rip off DP or AA. I'd like to know more about the people doing this jobbie.

I don't know if anyone has seen this yet but there's another new videogame magazine out called Polygon Magazine. The latest issue (#7) is available at Barnes & Noble and their website is: http://www.polygonmag.com/index.php
