I bought the first issue sight unseen. Came to £8 with shipping so it was kind of pricey!!! Gotta try it though.

I got it today from my local newsagent. 5.99 with CD. First issue, bit ruffly put together. In the Top Ten VCS games they list Boxing and Plaque Attack, it makes you wonder. Have to wait and see the next issue, and if they even last out the year. Let's hope, and let's hope it will improve.
A nice feature is full page adverts from the 80s, just like the monthly magazine 'Games' does.
Personally speaking I got it with high hopes and it's bollocks.
I flicked through it in the newsagents, and was far from impressed. Seemed like a quick cash-in job to me. And £6 with a DVD full of emulators I could download for free? No thanks.
Although I wasn't over-enamoured with GamesTM's retro pages either, even they seem much better than this new one.
At least there's always the Edge Retro periodicals to look forward to...

I think it is UK only. Some BN stores might get it though. I ordered mine via the link posted above. Haven't received it yet though.Originally Posted by PongHit

Impressions:
Nice looking magazine from the outside. Has a purposely scuff-marked look, and it says "OLD!" in the top-corner. Kudos.
Some interesting articles:
History of Street Fighter (recurring article with a different franchise every month)
Software Company in-depth history article(Mastertronic(!?) this month) 8 pages.
Hardware company in-depth history (Sinclair (?!) this month) 8-pages
6-page article on the history of Lord of the Rings games (Moria for the C64 and others I've never heard of as well as loads I had heard of.
History of Miner Willy. 6 pages.
22 page article with top-tens for various systems. Lots of cool box-art.
History of Street Fighter. 6 pages.
6 page article on Horror games: Friday the 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw etc.
10 pages of full-page advertisements from yesteryear. Each issue will focus on a different year. 1983 in this one.
A big article on emulation.
A couple of news bits pages.
Overall:
Has definite potential. Some really interesting articles, though a bit euro-centric. At least in the first issue. Interesting to learn about a different gaming scene too.
Lots of cool screenshots, box-scans and ads.
Cover disc is pretty useless, though it has a few hundred shareware titles, as well as a ton of different emulators.
A bit pricey to get it shipped to the US.
Hopefully they will drop the cover-disc and drop the price a few pounds.
I am certainly looking forward to issue 2 in April.
I received my copy today. What has been said above is pretty much right. The inside design looks like it was made in the late 80s.
Anyway, looking forward to reading it (I just went very quickly through it without really reading any article).
But, now that Manci is on its way to be published, I doubt I'll repeat the Retro Gamer magazine experience (the price and the fact that it's European are the main reasons why; expect many more articles about the Sinclair than the C64 or the Ti 99/4a...
I sort of felt the same way about the whole Sinclair bit in the first issue, though with that out of the way the big issue 2 article should be about something more interesting.
I'm buying one more issue at least.
I have to question one thing regarding their top 10 lists: where are the NES and SMS lists? Considering that the Sega Master System had more success in Europe, you'd expect it to be part of the top list. And there are oddities in the list (Pilotwings in the top 10 SNES games???) What about the incessant obsessions about Street Fighter II?).
Anyway, it's just a first issue, so who knows what lies in their future. It does read more like a zine than a professionally published mag, though.

Check out issue #2. Gotta love that Master System themed coverdisc.
The big article this month will be on Commodore, which at least is more interesting to me than the Spectrum stuff in issue #1.
The Retro Collector article might be good too.
Nifty subscription incentive too with the Namco TV controller game. Though, I'm still buying it on an issue by issue basis until I see how issue #2 is.
I've actually applied there as a freelance writer, let's see if they're interested. Might give it some more accuracy and indepth knowledge
Sadly too late to impart any of my wisdom for issue #2 in the Commodore section, so I will be disecting that thoroughly for mistakes :P
I checked out the web page in hopes of scoring a copy of the first issue, but apparently it is sold out. I headed over to ebay and was shocked at what I saw...! apparently, the magazine is going for about £23.. with 3 days left?!

is anyone selling a copy for less?

In all honesty, it's not even worth the £6 cover price.
I agree. I have been dissapointed wit the first two issues although I thought it was clever how the disc case in #2 looked like a SMS game;

£20-25 is the going rate on eBay currently for issue #1 as I've been looking for one (as it didn't appear on any substance in the shops round my way). Fortunately I managed to snag a copy for less than that.
Issue #2 was a lot better, and only a couple of minor quibbles with the content. It's rather UK centric so far, so it might not appeal to you US readers as much. But then again I expect the new Manci Games mag will be fairly US centric by comparison.
