Default Need help identifying Commodore 64 music: Gandalf/Drelbs

I was directed to these forums when the following question stumped retro experts on GameFAQs.

Many old Commodore games don't have their own soundtrack, but borrow one classic track or another for use in their game. A few that come to mind are Ride of the Valkyries in Blackhawk, Leichte Cavalerie (sorry, don't know the English name on that one ) in Cock'In, even Yankee Doodle in Frogger. And tons more. Then there's games that come with their own music but especially the older games don't seem to do that often.

Now there is one piece of music, used in two games that I know of, that I am especially fond of. It is the background music in Gandalf the Sorcerer, and also the title screen music in Drelbs (although that version is played much quicker, but it's the same song).

What I am hoping to find out is:

    - Is this song something real, existing, a classic piece maybe, or was this made for these games?
    - If the former, does anybody know what it's called? Because I am definitely interested in obtaining it.

I'll be happy already with any responses indicating that people know which music I'm talking about. An answer to my question would be great but recognition that I'm not the only one who knows and adores this piece of music would be a good second.

    Thanks in advance!

Check out the Sid Tune Information List.

The Drelbs tune is a cover of Robert Schumann's Wilder Reiter.

Took a little time to search for a sample of Wilder Reiter, but I got one, and it's indeed exactly the tune I was looking for. Thanks for clearing up that mystery!
