Default Gee, The Typing of the Dead is still going!

I knew The Typing of the Dead 2003 had been released for the PC in Japan, but it would appear they've gone right ahead and released TOTD 2004.

It seems there isn't much that's new aside from new drills and a highres mode (which is a pity, since I imagine it would be nice to have some of the stuff from The House of the Dead 3). At any rate, there's still a playable demo available (and at 63 MB, it's a lot smaller than the original TOTD demo from a while back).

I wonder if there's still any chance of this getting released outside of Japan?

I just downloaded it... took a while to find though because of the jarbled text. Played this game at DrJustinRamone's and it was a joyride.

Oh, curses, the installer seems to require Japanese Windows.

Something tells me the ol' NJStar CJK Viewer won't solve this problem. Is anyone else more knowledgeable with this kind of thing?

I'm a K-8 computer teacher for a private school (christian) and I use TOD for my typing class....lol. I've done this for two years and I'm still amazed to this day that I haven't had a parent or the administration come down on me. I've always wondered if the kids are covering for me. I know I've never advertised that I use it. Then again my 8th grade class has an AVERAGE typing score of 100% accuracy and 47wpm on the districts typing test. If you like these sort of games POPCAP.COM has TYPER SHARK that actually is a neat game.
Aha! Now we see the violence inherent in the system!

I'm very surprised that no ones come down on you yet for this...hahaha, I find it funny! But it's an excellent teaching tool, seriously, cause I thought I was a good typer until I played this. I realized that looking at your fingers at all will cause you to lose badly.

Ah, I've got it... All you need is winnls.dll.

Indeed, there is not much new, although there's a new Kid's Mode with redubbed Japanese dialog. (The House of the Dead 2 has some laughably bad voice acting.)

I'd have thought that they could have used MP3 encoding on the WAV sound effects and music, as they take up considerable hard drive space... But no, sadly, it's all still straight PCM.
