    Hmmm, Let's see:

    SMS:

    In Miracle World
    The Lost Stars
    In High-Tech World
    In SHinobi World

    Genesis:
    The Enchanted Castle

And yes, there was a BMX game. I believe it used a special controller and it was for SMS. EDIT: this was a Japan only release, I believe, unless someone can confirm Europe....definitely not a US release. Was it SMS or Mark III?

Mark III, SMS, it doesn't matter. Mark III systems didn't natively have all the hardware a Master System have (i.e. you have to add on FM synth) but they are essentially the same thing and a Mark III can run all the software a Master System can.

Master System games were released in packages marked as, say, a Gold Cartridge (Phantasy Star, Shinobi) or a Silver Cartridge. I believe that distinction was the Japanese counterpart of the markings on European and American cartridges designating a game as "A Two-Mega game" or "The Sega Mega Cartridge," etc.

Actually, the Gold cartridges were first party Sega games. Even "Loretta's Portrait" the 1 mega SG-1000 game was released as a Gold Cartridge. The ONLY silver cartridges are the 3rd party releases by Salio (Solomon's Key, Rygar)
So Gold = First party, Silver = 3rd party

It totally matters...the connectors were different sizes. You can't stick a Mark iii game into a SMS. Not positive I've ever seen an adaptor either....

Also, the Japoanese SMS had the FM Yamaha chip, and the US version did not, right?

I own a Mark III/SMS adaptor for the Genesis tho.

Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars also came out in the arcades, I believe. And I don't know crap about Alex Kidd: BMX Trial... I'm also curious about it.

Yeah, I forgot about the Arcade System-16 game!

Oh, yeah, and don't forget about the upcoming Sega Ages re-release of Alex Kidd in Miracle World for the Japanese Ps2 (and supposedly US, eventually).

Really? Do you have one, or have pics of it? I've never even heard of this.

A Mark III game will fit in a Japanese SMS, can't it?

The FM Sound Unit was a component that was sold separately. And yes, it was only available in Japan (dang shame, too).

There's a pic of it in a Japanese Sega Joy Joy issue. They also made a Fantasy Zone board game. I own neither, though.

Fantasy Zone too? Damn, but that's cool. I'd love to see these.

Yeah, I think it was sort of like this:

Japanese Mrk III: FM module optional
Japanese SMS: FM module/chip built in
US SMS: no FM unit available, but can be modded.

Is this correct or were there also Japanese SMSs w/ no FM chip?

Yeah, that's pretty much correct, exept the Japanese Master System also had the 3D glasses adapter and rapid fire built in too.
