    I can answer these:

CD-R's - hard, require mod chipping

Imports - easy, get the Action Replay 4-in-1 cart, put it in the cart slot. You can now play imports.

2D fighters/Shooters - welcome to heaven, the Sega Saturn has both in spades, especially in japan. And best part, both genres rarely ever require knowledge of the language itself.

And only certain versions of the Saturn (round buttoned) will work with the modchips available. Modchips for oval buttoned saturns are no longer available.

It's a great way to back up and preserve those rare games.

You can also swap the games, which is what I do. I HAD a mod chip for my Saturn, but it burned out on me, and the second chip just doesn't seem to work at all. So I either swap or run the games on Giri Giri.
