Ok, I'd tried something novel this time - being civil. I merely emailed the guy saying "Not a proto."
You just don't know how hard it is to suppress my cynicism and sarcasm gene.

Well, I "pwned" her. Here's a relay of our conversation....
Hey, this isn't a prototype. Do a little research, there are TWO, count em
TWO, versions of Impossible Mission 2 for NES made by different companies.
Want some more info, go to www.digitpress.com, a respected video game site,
make a post about this in the forum. They will help you out.

(I must admit I forgot about 2 SEI label variations when sending this)
--------------------------------------------------------
hello,
there are 3 versions of this game i so another just on ebay
yesterday same game but with a diderrent color label !
---------------------------------------------------------
maybe so but that still doesnt make yours a prototype
---------------------------------------------------------
hello,
how come i never seen this version on ebay in well over 2 years i
see the more common version selling all the time this version never was on
ebay well as long as i been selling here & thats about 2 years !
----------------------------------------------------------
Ok, after searching through a lot of links I found the best info I could for you. First of all, in the US there were 2 companies that made this game, AVE (American Video Entertainment) and SEI. SEI made 2 different labels, a color version and the plain white version you have. The plain white version isn't an authorized version but it's no more rare than the other version. Heres some links to help you out....
SEI Information from Warp Zone (Next to the last paragraph explains what I was saying about 2 different labels) - http://www.planetnintendo.com/thewarpzone/sei.html
SEI Color Version Label, the white version label & the HES Australian versions - http://nestral.topcities.com/gallery/ss/im2cart.htm
AVE Label - http://www.nesplayer.com/database/info/impmiss2.jpg
And a few eBay auctions with your game....
This one didn't sell at 9.49 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
Same one again, did sell this time for 9.99 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
Oops, this one sold for only .99! - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
AVE version sold for 11.00 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
SEI COlor label - sold for 5.91 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
Australian Version - only got 4.25. - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=62053
Hopefully you now see that what you have is NOT a prototype, but just a cheap label variation. If you need anymore information please let me know. Hopefully you will adjust your auction accordingly now.
Have a great evening.

Haven't heard back from her, hope she got the point!
Some people need to learn. Before you think it is a proto, search for it on the net.
It has been fixed. Sort of. It doesn't say proto in the title, the price changed (as well as the BIN) and it only says proto once in the description. Missing that last one may have been an oversight. She still claims it is very rare and she has never seen one on eBay even though cmosfm helped her out on that.
Still a moron.
Check it out, shes changed the auction. Still pretty crappy and overpriced but it lookes like my e-mails changed her mind.
And to think she didn't even thank me, the nerve!
Do you guys really expect everyone who puts something up for sale on ebay to spend time researching exactly what their item is before listing it? I sure the hell don't. Who has the time for that. Most people just want to quickly list their item and move on to the next one.
I'd have to say that I'd expect that the buyer should know what he's bidding on more than I'd expect the seller to know what he's selling. Do you go to a tage sale expecting the seller to know the history of the game that you're thinking of buying? If this were the case then there'd be no such thingas a great deal. If there's one rule that I think that everyone on eBay should live by its "Let the buyer beware."
Those were my exact thoughts.Originally Posted by Griking

Anywho, no, I don't expect every seller to do research on every item. BUT, I feel 10 mins of Googling should be something anyone with common sense would do before they jump on eBay with a 500.00 BIN "prototype".
Sorta for instance, you got a Mickey Mantle card, just a random one, and without checking anything decided to put it on eBay and place a 1000.00 BIN price. But if you had checked the dates on the back, etc etc and done a little research you may have found out it was a .50 reprint or a card valued at only 20.00.
See what I'm saying!

In Ebay Rules and Policies , they point out very clearly the responsibility of the seller in researching their items. As they point out the seller can be sued for misrepresenting their item. Especially if it is a Name Brand Item.
Some things they mention are "Beanie Babies, Rayban , Rolexes, etc"
I'm going to say that a "RARE PROTOTYPE" would fit in this category also.
If the seller is going to try to sell something that supposedly is worth a lot, he Dang well better research it or he might end up in Judge Judy's Court.
