    Default Tiger Woods

I played Tiger Woods 2004 and love the way the game plays. I was thinking of getting an older version, but have no clue on the way the older games play. I could get an older version of Tiger Woods for less than 10. Are there any gameplay differences between them?

I know in 2004, you can pull the joystick back, and then pound the button to get a super hard hit (anyone that has played 2004 will know what I mean). Now, is this different in the older versions of tiger woods?

I have the 2003 version, and it is more or less the same game as 2004. I also played the 2002 version and I'm not too fond of that years game.

If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend Swingerz Golf...it's one of the most fun golfing games I have ever played. Maybe you've already played it, if not, check it out!

so how are the play mechanics different between 2002,2003,2004?

if they all have the same way of hitting the ball, then i could care less about crappy courses, because i can go right now and get 2002 for less than 10, and 2003 for like 15.

sweetness, that means i am going to pick up 2003 (or 2002 if i feel crazy) tonight. i can always get used to bad levels. i even got used to insane play mechanics (i used to tear it up in golf for virtual boy), but i fell in love with those swing mechanics. i have played tons of golf games in my day, and none have attracted me like tw has, and its swing mechanics drew me in. i figured there is no point in paying 30-50 on 2004 when i can buy one of the lower years for way cheaper.

Swingerz Golf is fun but too easy. Especially after playing Tiger Woods.

Yeah, I had paid 50 bucks for the 03 version and had a blast with it. I rented the 04 version when it came out and decided there wasn't too many things new in it for me to spend another 50 bucks. So I didn't buy this years game.

the local game store isn't offering up swingerz for less than 10. i am not a total cheap ass, but like i said, there is no point in buying the 2004 edition when the part i love the most about the game, swing mechanics, is the same.

I second the '03 version of Tiger Woods. I think that its enough of an improvement in game types over '02 and the mechanics are the same in all of them. I don't think '04 is that much better so you might as well go for the cheaper '03, thats what I did.

Slightly off topic, but I've been playing the GBA version of Tiger Woods on my flash cart for a few weeks now and think this version is great. I'm not even a golf fan but I find it very relaxing. Golf translates real well to handhelds.

The sad thing is I screwed up when juggling titles around on the cart and lost the saver file that contains with my stats and more importanly my unlocks. If anyone can send me over just the saver file I'd appreciate it. Just send me an email or a PM.

If you're not looking to spend $50 for 2004, then go with 2003. It plays the same, but you can finish everything the game has to offer pretty quickly. DEFINITELY worth $15 tho. I paid $30 for it last year and certainly got my money's worth. I've been enjoying 2004 much better, however, due to the create-a-player feature and the PGA Tour Career mode. Nearly 400 18-hole rounds of golf later, I'm STILL playing it. That, in my opinion, is a game worth $50. I'm gonna be waiting in line for the stores to open when 2005 is released.

One more thing: I'd recommend purchasing this game for Xbox or GCN... as the controls are much more manageable due to proper stick locations. I'll never understand the public's obsession with the PS2 controller. It just flat out sucks for both 3D and 2D games. The sticks are too far from your thumb, and the D-pad is chopped up. This makes it much more difficult to get a straight swing in Tiger Woods. So yeah... AVOID the PS2 version if possible.

GameCube is perfect. That's what I play it on. In my opinion, the Tiger Woods controls are best suited for the GCN stick and button layout. Xbox would be second, and PS2 worst. The only problem with the GCN version is lack of storage space on the discs and memory cards. TW 2004 is so large that it utilizes 2 game discs... and it can be a pain to switch between them each time you wanna play a different course.

Mario Golf rocks. I may have to check out Tiger though b/c I'm sick of hooking up the N64 for one damn game. Interesting conversation here, you just don't hear people praising the golf games too often.

I enjoyed Mario Golf for what it was. But, unfortunately, the TW games have spoiled me as far as the analog swing is concerned. IMO, that's the best thing to ever happen to golf games. If Nintendo incorporates the analog swing into the next Mario Golf game, I may look into purchasing it.

Microsoft has its own Tiger Woods clone out on Xbox titled Links 2004 I believe. That might be worth checking out as well. Game reviewers claim that it's not quite up to "par" with TW, but it's on the right "course" (that's me... master of cheap puns ) as far as gameplay is concerned. Could be a winner in the next few years.
