Default Arcade Snake Gains Recognition from California Extreme!

I thought I'd share with everyone what Ken Chaney of California Extreme has to say about Arcade Snake:

"Ken here for the Extreme Team. I tried out your snake game, and found it oddly compelling. Simplicity and challenge are hallmarks of memorable 80's games, and you have captured those."

So if anyone wants to play Arcade Snake, click on the link below:

For anyone living in Prince Edward Island, Canada, I thought I'd let you know that Arcade Snake will be featured in the next issue of "The Buzz" (Number 131, May 2004).

So next month, please pick up a copy.

Arcade Snake is also making news in gametunnel.com and madmonkey.net. I'm glad to say that independent game developers are now getting noticed, and that we don't have to rely on the Independent Games Festival anymore for exposure. The IGF has become corrupt recently as all game entries must cater to Alex Dunne, who chooses the top 10 finalists based on his personal tastes. That is why you won't see Arcade Snake or Martian Sunset 6 entered into the IGF -- I'm saving my money for better things!

Arcade Snake also shows that making games that recaptures the magic of playing classic arcade games -- is as worthy as franchise games that prefer superb graphics and multi-million dollar budgets over simple gameplay. And there is an audience out there that want games that recaptures the magic of yesteryear, as I have seen in these forums at digitpress.com.

    The market is finally changing.

WOW! I am having so much fun playing this game.

    POST YOUR HIGH SCORE!

    I got 300 before I wrapped myself around....myself.

Jared...is there an official high score table for this game?

Yep....all this game needs is the ability to post your high score on an online high score table. One that will take your high score from the game and post it so no one cheats either.

I just hit 500...trying to get past that but its killer

No one will ever make a snake game better than Pizza Worm!

I thought about it when I uploaded the game last month. I'll see what I can come up with.

For now, try and beat my high score: 760 points! If you can get past this score, make a screen capture before the score resets to 0 and post it in this forum.

And if any of you are using a Mac, or know of anyone using a Mac, Arcade Snake will work on that as well. I have the font files (PC and Mac) at www.redmudgames.com available for download to get the arcade look in your score (the score uses dynamic text in Flash).

Say what you want. People are playing Arcade Snake!

How many independent game developers (the ones who are not "Top 10 IGF Finalists" like myself) can say that people around the world are playing their games?

I for one love it, great work! The brutal speed sets it apart from other similar games, and makes it all that much more fun to play. Post anything else you come up with as well!

I'm putting the finishing touches on an experimental Turtle game which I hope to have completed this weekend.

What will this game bring back memories of?
You guessed it -- Stern's 1981 Classic "Turtles."

But the gameplay is totally different. It blends Turtles and Pac-Man with the "warp zone" element of Tutankham (where you teleport from one area of the maze to another).

And like Arcade Snake -- it's challenging! When I have it done, everyone in this forum will be the first to know about it (web access included).
