I had a great time. Thanks to all who played along! And to the DP for setting this all up. Much better than last years April fools.
Not to be a urine soaked wet blanket, but that was pretty weak.
I mean, c'mon, any GOOD april fools joke requires effort, and this one seemed like it was thought up at about 11:30PM March 31st. Really, how hard would it have been to make the site monochrome green, or change the banners to read "radical press" or "VGAMES_BBS"?
- my 1/2 peso.
I didn't even know what was going on (there were no obvious signs about it for us "view posts since last visit" kind of guys.. at least I didn't see any).
But with the date and the flood of posts that obviously had that theme of being back in 1983... it didn't take a lot of thought to figure it out :P
It was a fun day but when I came on in the monrning everything was normal then when I came back after I got home from school everything was different. Much better than last years joke. I can't wait until next year.
Sorry Ryan, but your girlfriend is in another school.

And now, a quote from Kahn of King of the Hill:
You know A- is unacceptable! Even regular A's we're not so crazy about.
Kidding, we did super-nice, fellas. That was the most fun posting on here I've had in ages. Compliments I shall give now, hmm?
Guess I gotta re-alter my avatar, though... yet AGAIN... *grumble, whine* :P
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

It was awesomely awesome. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea.

Normally I am a quiet defender of your posts as they make me laugh, even when most don't see the humor.Originally Posted by Raccoon Lad

(yup, that's as bad of an outburst as you'll usually get from me, but I feel better for saying it just the same... )
Glad most everyone else had as good of a time as I did! I had a blast and I wish I had been the one who had thought of it! Thanks for playing along!
I liked it. Yesterday is probably going to be one of the most memorable April Fools days I've ever had, because of DP.
Like I said, I was born in 1982 so I missed out on that era. It was fun being a gamer in 1983, and talking about what happened or was going to happen back then. Especially since the internet wasn't this prominent back then, it gave me a good idea of what it might have been like.
Kudos to the person who thought this up.
Unfortunately I didn't visit the forum yesterday while 1983 was in effect, so it looks like I missed out.
But I DID...
...hear "Love is a Battlefield" on the radio in the morning, and proceed to have it stuck in my head all day...
...watch a rerun of The A-Team on cable...
...shop for some back issues of the UK magazine Tiger Comic from 1982 and '83...
...download and watch two Atari commercials from the early '80s...
...and spend most of the afternoon looking at Odyssey2 stuff (for my web site).
I guess in my world, it's always 1983 (give or take a year or so).
Well darn! You missed this in my signature then:Originally Posted by o2william
@ PDF. I missed it, too. It sounds like a lot of fun, even though I would be stuck pretending to have lived then.
Since a few of you asked, it was our own Queen of the Felines who dreamed this one up, and we naturally and instantly fell in love with the idea. There was ONE major piece of the day that was missing though - Kris got the idea because a forum glitch had turned one of our pasts' dates back to 1969. When she saw that it triggered the "what if it were 1983 on the forum".Originally Posted by ManekiNeko

So we had to scrap that bit and go with our imagination.
Again, thanks to everyone with a sense of fun and mischief who played along.
I do have a question.
Why 1983?
It has been confusing me as to why that particular date was chosen, I'd think if 1984 was chosen it would make more sense because it was exactly 20 years ago. I dunno, it's just been confusing me here. x_x
