Default Prototype SMB: lost levels english NES cart?

When I was younger, I was gullible with my big sister on nearly anything she said. But this one still kind of sticks with me (this is somewhat close to what she said):

'we were at a garage sale, and a guy was selling an NES game that said something about SMB 2 on it, and he said that he used to work at nintendo and they were going to release this in the US but of course got cancelled'

now i am 99% sure this is poop, but hey, doesn't hurt to ask questions?
And don't bring up that stupid girlie Aladdin rip off! Shantea?

I have been looking for a cart of SMB 2 (aka lost levels) for some time now. I know they only made a pirate version, but if anyone has one available, please let me know!

So why do you remember this as proto?

I find myself in agreement...but how much is it to ship something like that from South America?!

Is the pirate version an exect copy of the FDS version that Nintendo was selling, or is a hack of SMB1?

thats what i was wondering, because if it is the game they were trying to sell (finished or not, even if pirated), i think would be something that would be very cool to own.

Some of them are a bit lacking with the wind effects, from what I remember. Someone released a ROM hack a while ago that was FDS-perfect but in cartridge format, even down to the title screen.

On a related note, has anyone ever seen a Doki Doki Panic on a cart before?

That's the one! It works fine on everything, including a real cart.

mario 2 is not the true super mario brothers 2, nintendo bought the rights from fuji tv of a little known game called doki doki, that was released on the famicom disk system, changed the main 4 character images to resemble mario and friends, left almost everything else intact and released it under the name smb2. thus its not the real smb2, the creator of smb was working on smb2 and then nintendo decided to release the doki doki version instead for no apparent reason...

It really wasn't for "no apparent reason". They felt that the Japanese SMB2 was too hard for US gamers. To be honest, they were probably right. That game is HARD. It basically picks up where mario 1- world 8 left off in terms of difficulty and ramps it up from there.

On a side note, Doki Doki Panic, or the US Super Mario 2, was eventually released in Japan as "Super Mario USA"
Still a gamer, still a liberal.

So what does anyone figure on the value of the cart?

I understand many peoples opinions are that pirate carts are inherently worthless; but what would somebody ELSE be willing to pay for the famicom cart?

    Cheers

    ???

The game never came out as a famicom cart game. Officially, it only came out as an FDS game.

As far as pirate value.. it's a wierd subject.

Pirate carts that are famicom games are close to worthless. Pirate carts that were made for the north american market (100 in 1, 190 in 1, etc..) are actually saught after by some collectors and sell for 50$+ per cart!

I always believed that a game is worth as much as the next person is willing to pay for it.
