I keep lists of games for each system I have on my webspace that I update as new purchases are made. I'm trying to keep my dp in as good of shape as possible, but the corners are starting to get a little dinged up from constant viewing. 8)

Heck, yes! Mark away! It's the whole point The only purpose I see of maintaining separate lists would maybe be for portability (ie- a list of those NES games that you don't have yet), when you don't want to lug the book into all the game shops & stand around paging thru the thing while the evil salesclerks watch you :P

hehe, that's exactally why... well, that and like I said, it's online so I can just point people to my want lists. I also only collect for three systems right now, so if I were like many of you, collecting for SEVERAL systems, I'd probably have to use the book.

My "carry along" copy has writing ALL OVER IT. In the checkboxes, notes I've made for corrections, doodles, etc. It's a complete mess already. Of course, I've also got a "coffee table" copy which is unmarked and a "travel" copy that I use when I'm pitching sales on the road.

So, that leaves you with a solution to this dilemma. Buy MULTIPLE copies. That way you're always prepared and you can write to your hearts content without fear.

I solve problems. It's what I do.

So far, I haven't written in it, but that's just lack of motivation/more pressing issues demanding my time, ect. However, my DP6 is all marked up. The boxes are checked, writing in the margin (Note to DP: how's about check boxes for boxes and manuals next time around, hmmmm...) notes added, my own commentary, all that stuff.

And I gave Joe's picture horns, does that count?

My DP7 doesn't have a mark in it, but my DP4 looks like a disaster. It has markings all through it, notes, checked boxes, mini editorials , and it's not even in its original binding anymore.

YES! This is one of my favorite features of the guide, and the ONLY listing of games I have for my collection. The ONLY thing I use to keep track of my collection is the DP guide. No joke.

What I would like is if the box was bigger, you could put a number in it rating the quality of the label (1-10) instead of a checkmark.

I say "No mark." I keep my game lists on spreadsheets, and have for some time. I got the book for informational purposes, and to ride shotgun with me on game hunting trips. It sits in my car, and if I come across a tough "collecting decision," I consult the guide.

I've got another solution for those of you who don't want to mark up the book. PRINT the lists from our Master List Database site (banner below) and write on those instead! The sections that are also in the book don't have the book's details (aka "Lite version") but the checkboxes and lists are the same. The other systems have more detail and you SHOULD be printing and checking them off. You MUST.

I'm a collector. Of course I don't put markings in my books! I keep everything I buy (CDs, DVDs, Books, Comics, Games, Magazines) in tip top shape if I can.

Mind you the corners of my DP Guide are fraying a bit. But that's from reading it (and it's not like I'm gonna stop reading it ).

I'm a database programmer, so I keep a digital copy of all of my lists. My Palm Pilot works like a charm. Instant counts of the collection, I can back it up for insurance purposes, and I can be inconspicuous and search quickly to see if I have a game already or not.

hehe, well I printed the dreamcast and n64 sections and marked the crap out of them. I think it's the fact that it's my first dp and I'm afraid I'll break it and never get another.

My version 7 guide is still in mint condition and resides on top of my TV. Although my version 6 is all marked up. I tend to keep my older version in my car since I never seem to have it when I need it. I hate when I see a strange title in a store and then have to guess the rarity. If I leave the game it tends to be rare (and missing when I go back), or I buy it and it turns out to be common as dirt.

The little "boxes of evil" are the best part of the book! Makes me keep collecting until I can fill them all.
