    Default What Do YOU Miss?

Vector video games. For some reason, I liked every one of them. Major Havoc! Space Fury! Rip Off! Armor Attack! Tempest!

2D Platformers, and games that use 2-3 buttons tops.

I miss 2D games period. Everything these days is in 3D. Give us some of those classic 2D Run 'n gun games.

Oh yeah. The good ol' side scrolling platformers. Imagine what those would look like today.

Beat-em-ups, like Final Fight and Vendetta. The one-on-one fighting genre killed them off, basically, but since I'm on a fighter craze nowadays, I'm conflicted. Still... *sigh* Those, and shooting games like Commando and Guerrilla War.

Power ups in shooters. What happened to them, anyway? These days companies seem more intent on flooding your with bullets than giving you the means to fire some of your own at the enemies.

Vector graphics, yes, I LOVE vector graphics

Also agree with a good Beat 'em up. Something like The Simpsons, Alien Vs. Predator, etc.

GOOD Disney games, and ones that you won't get made fun of for owning. Ducktales for NES is praised by everybody! And it's also much better than crap like Monsters Inc. for PS2 or Jungle Book Rhythm & Groove. I think Disney games went downhill when they started with SNES & Genesis....and left Capcom.

Pure, simple, fast paced gameplay. Kaboom for Atari comes to mind, Arcade Snake, theres even some games today that hold up to that like Gitaroo Man & DDR. I like giving my fingers and mind a workout, not crawling around in stealth.

    I miss...

Good Batman games. There were a couple good ones on the SNES...Batman Returns and The Adventures of Batman & Robin (based on the animated series). Since then it's been "Holy Craptitude, Batman!"

A local arcade with games I want to play.

    Friends who play video games.

Vinyl records. Okay, no one said this had to all do with games

Awww... come on the Lion King and Alladdin games were great too. I'd rate them right up there with DuckTales (and this is coming from a DuckTales fangirl... well for the series overall not the game in particular).

How can I say this? I miss the satistfaction of playing a game knowing that it could be my last new game for some time, rather than the one at the top of my voluminous "To Play" list.

    • American-style RPG's where you actually role play rather than watch movies.
    • Point & Click adventure games. Where's my Full Throttle 2 and Sam & Max 2??
    • 2D Fighters. Screw this side stepping nonsense.
    • Games that never end, but just gradually get harder while you strive for a high score.

Laserdisc Arcade Games. I would love a new Dragons Lair, Space Ace, Cobra Commander, or any good laserdisc game. It would get my attention anyway to see a new one. I know I would have to stop and play.

I miss the "food" themed games. Pressure Cooker, Jawbreaker, Fast Food, Tax, Pac-man, Plaque Attack, Tooth Protectors, Burgertime, Food Fight, etc. Where have they all gone?

I also miss the days when videogames were just that--GAMES. Not me controlling some psychotic murderer, or machine-gun totting lunatic in some hyper realistic stealth mission. I don't want more realistic games, is that too much to ask?

    I miss...

Games that you could just start up and instantly be playing. None of this fumbling through menus bullshit, neverending intros, loading time, or long tutorials.

The glory days of the Neo Geo... even if I was too wrapped up in Nintendo to pay attention to SNK most of those years.

2D games in general, but especially platformers.

When Japanese games were king. In the days of the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. just about all the games that were hyped up were from Japan. Now it's Vice City this, Halo that...

    I miss:

Games that were designed to be fun works of interactive art, not just crap shoveled onto shelves to make a quick buck.

Games where you didn't have to wander about a sprawling barren world for hours on end just so you can sit on your ass all catatonic looking at the pretty 3D scenery while forgetting what gameplay is.

Not having to fight with the 3D camera.

I miss games where gameplay and plot came first before graphics and sound.

    I miss:

2D platformers that put fun and challenge over gpahics and collecting mindless trinkets.

2D Rpg's that focused on interesting characters and unique ideas, stuff like chrono trigger and Earthbound.

The days before grand theft auto, when games like mario & sonic sold millions of copies.

The Super NES, the greatest system ever.

Games based off of food products like cheetos and Mcdonalds.
