Amiga emulator assistance...

I really suck at this, so I need help. Okay... how in THE hell do you get the WinUAE emulator to work... that is, to play games? I have these Turrican and Project X roms that are going to waste because I can't get this damn thing to function right. This might be a little much to ask for, but anyone who's got the time... step-by-step, how do you play games on the WinUAE emulator? Thanks in advance.

It's a tricky beast, isn't it?

If you can track down the right Workbench floppy image (and if you found a Kickstart ROM, I imagine you could), Amiga in a Box could be very helpful.

Tricky it is, Jorpho. Thanks for the link there. Okay, I have a kickstart rom, and I use it for my rom file. Then I'm on this screen of a floppy disk entering a slot, but I can't get past that. Where do I go from there?

You have to mount your game image and then run the emulator. If you ever had a real Amiga (I'm guessing no?) you will remember that if you turned on the Amiga 500 without a disk in the drive you would get that hand holding a disk image. When you load WinUAE, go to the ROM tab. Select the correct path for your kick rom. Set all of your other sound/video settings, then go to the floppies tab. Select the game you want to play here. If it is a one disk game, mount it on DF0. DF1, 2 and so on represent extra floppy drives. Think of it this way: Mounting the game in DF0 is basically popping the game floppy disk in the Amiga's internal drive. When done, hit the "ok" button on the emulator. This tells it to "turn on" and the game will boot up. Hope this helps. There is sure alot more to know, but I do happen to know a ton about Amiga emulation and will help you best I can. If you need other kick roms (which are basically Amiga BIOS files) I have a full set of those as well. You will find down the line that one game will need v1.3 kick, while another will need v3.1.

PS: most games (at least ones that I play) need the v1.3 kickstart rom. From the sounds of your version it is not that one. It may work nonetheless, but if you need a zip with all of the kick roms just in case shoot me a PM with an email addy.

Good to hear you got it working man! I was lucky enough to catch a full Amiga flood a few months back. Lots of great games. The entire set takes up 3 DVD's!

Mind if I bump in too? I'm having problems

For one, whenever I full screen... only half of the screen works (The game is smashed into the top half)

I got my controller to work, but it plays like hell, i'm trying to play with just the keyboard and mouse but nothing works.

Also, there are a ton of lines through everything

ATTN VAC: I can help ya. For the control, I go to Game and I/O ports, and then for Mouse Port 0, I set it at Keyboard Layout A, and then K.L. B for Mouse Port 1. As for fullscreen, go to Display, and set the Line Mode to Doubled. Hope this helps.

Do some games need a joystick? I'm trying to play Motorhead and nothing is working...I'm hitting everything I can on my mouse and keyboard.
