Default Import mods for Sega Saturn

Where would be the best place to get a US Saturn modded to play imports? How much would it cost? And would this enable you to play Azel: Panzer Dragoon Saga, or is it only possible to play that game on an original Japanese Saturn?

Couldn't you just buy one of those Action Replay carts? I got one of those for my Saturn, and it enables you to play imports, can act as a 1M or 4M RAM expansion, and it can also act as a memory card (which comes in handy since my Saturn's battery is dead). Works fine for me, I have a few import games now that all work fine. X-Men vs. Street Fighter needs the 4M expansion and it works fine on my system.

I think Funk Buddy has a whole bunch of new Action Replays that he's selling. That's where I got mine from.

The converters is a cheaper way to go but most of them have problems with Panzer Dragoon Azal. I know there is a Datel converter that will let you play the import PDS on a US Saturn.

The only game I have had problems with my modded PAL console is Soukyugurentai and this due to the fact that it has dual language on ST-V.
The text sometimes crumbels and obstructs the screen.

I don't think there will be any problems as they're both 60Hz. Heck, I've played my PAL Saga on my PAL console on 60Hz virtually without problems. I could do the mod for something like $30 but then you'd have to ship it to Finland.

I too would like to mod my Saturn in the coming months. I've recently acquired the PAL version of King of Fighters `95, with that damn pack-in ROM cartridge, and I'd prefer not to pay to ship a PAL Saturn console overseas.

Are there any reputed modchip dealers left? I'm open to suggestions...

All you really need is an Action Replay 4M Plus (second card in the chart). Look up our own Funk Buddy and see if he'll hook you up with one.

I don't know how this will work on a PAL (game) to NTSC (console) conversion but I suspect you will need a seperate mod to play PAL games on NTSC consoles. The cats at http://www.gamesx.com/index2.htm might be able to address this better than I can.

I have the Action Replay cart. Trouble is, though, the King of Fighters `95 game has it's own ROM cartridge that's required for the game to run. It won't let me "hot-swap" the cartridges.

I have the NTSC/PAL problem taken care of.

Yeah, I've noticed it too. Apparently, Souky detects the language setting of the Saturn and adjusts itself accordingly. Unfortunately, the game's English mode is very flawed... any text that's not corrupted will probably end up being written in equally indecipherable Kanji.

If you hold down the L & R buttons when your Saturn boots, you can change the language setting to Japanese and play the game without corrupted text. There'll be even more Kanji this way, but at least Souky will look more professional.

You need a Model 2 Saturn, though, in order for it to work. If I didn't want to mess with my Saturn I would do the mod chip. I'm going to get the Action Replay Plus instead.

If panzer dragoon saga is not the same region as your console you will have to install a language switch, because the game has a anti-converter protection, so you can't play it with a pro-action replay plus.

    Default .

there's cheat code to bypass that when you use ARP4-1+ cart.
I used that code to run PAL PDS demo disc on JPN Saturn with ARP4-1+ cart.
if anyone wants I will have to dig up as I no longer use ARP4-1+ cart after successfully mod my Saturn with country as well as 50/60Hz switches...

    cheers

Yup you are right if one has the right version of that cart there is a boot cheat for it.

If you have that Datel converter you can play PDS on an import systemn and not get the remove cart message.

i modded my saturn bu opening it up and making it think that the drive is always open (yeah, i'm a swap bitch). i really did this for backups, because playing imports is super easy using an action replay. Tip of advice: get a 4-in-1, because swapping out the action replay and 4meg cart at just the right time can be a pain in the ass many times
