I grew up with the SNES, so I little, if any, experience with the genesis. Here's my SNES favourite list:

    Illusion of Gaia
    Donkey Kong Country 1-3
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    Chrono Trigger
    Contra 3: The Alien Wars

The SNES was such a great system. It may have had it's share of crap, but there were a lot of great games.

Just have to say, I started playing Snatcher for the first time recently, and it's hard to believe that I'm not playing it on a Playstation or Saturn. Wow.

I am forced to say Final Fantasy VI.
Then Morgoth hurled aloft Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld, and swung it down like a bolt of thunder.

    Mario's Time Mac...

Nah. I think that Link to the Past is what really broke the mold for the Zelda series and is what brought me into the series.

Super Punch-out is a close second for me. I love the goofy graphics and the large characters and animations I thnik are done really well.

for the 16 bit area id have to say that the genesis has "more" "better" games than all the systems but as for the best 16 bit game id have to cast my vote for chrono trigger on the snes with a second place for final fantasy III (VI)
The human operates out of complex superiority demands, self -affirming through ritual, insiting upon a rational need to learn, striving for self-imposed goals, manipulating his environment while he denies his own adaptive abilities, never fully satisfied.

I think that Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3 are the greatest 16-bit games of all time... I still play them today, even though I have beaten all 3 multiples times....

I was a Nintendo kid. I never owned a Genesis when I was younger, and therefore can't comment on the games. However, I have a very biased top 5 list of SNES games for you.

    1) Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: Most people hated Mystic Quest with a passion. It is my all time favorite game. I don't know what spell that frickin game held over me, but it gets me to this day...

    2) Secret of Evermore: SoE is flat out amazing. Music, graphics, storyline...But the best feature is the snarky commentary and jokes.

    3) Earthbound: Earthbound is the most creative RPG I have ever seen. I am sure alot of people will agree with me after seeing Mr. Saturn. Nuff said.

    4) Final Fantasy III: Who can have an SNES list without FF3?

    5) Breath of Fire II: BoF2 was so different when it came out. I wasn't a huge fan of the original but MAN did the sequel ever have me hooked.

My two cents, in no cohesive order.

The Street Fighter 2 games for Super NES or Genesis
    Super Mario World
    Zelda: Link to the Past
    Double Dragon for Genesis
Fatal Fury 2 for Super NES
WWF Royal Rumble for Super NES or Genesis
World Series Baseball 96 for Genesis
    NHL 95 for Genesis
Final Fight 1-3 on Super NES
    Sonic 1-3 on Genesis
Mortal Kombat series on SNES and Sega Genesis
    Altered Beast on Genesis
    Golden Axe on Genesis

There are numerous other games which I could think of. However, I figured this would be a good start.

    >>>>>sabre2922 said: On a side note: yes Im well aware that the turbographix-16 is actually an 8-bit system with a 16-bit color processor but hey I believe it to be one of the 16-bit era systems im mean the graphics always looked just as good as most genny games and just as colorful as most supernes games right?<<<<<

The SNES is a cut down 16 bit processor with an 8-bit bus, is it really an 8-bit machine? (The Ricoh 5A22 is the microprocessor CPU produced by Ricoh for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) video game console. The 5A22 is based around the 16-bit CMD/GTE 65c816, itself a version of the WDC 65C816 (used in the Apple IIGS personal computer)).
All of the above mentioned processors are based on the MOS Technology 6502 (8 bit) family of processors.

Amiga and ST for example. Think about it, Motorola 68000's has 32-bit internals and a 16-bit external bus, the Amiga and ST are therefore 32 bit computers with a 16 bit bus.... yet they were classed as 16 bit, hence SNES must be 8 bit.
    You decide.

Anyway, best 16 bit games (top of my head, and not a console in sight):
    Hunter (Atari ST)
    Balance of Power (Atari ST)
    Millenium 2.2 (Amiga)
    Monkey Island 2 (Amiga)
    The Fools Errand (Amiga)
    Civilization/Colonization (Amiga)
    Rise of the Dragon (Amiga)
