    Default Genre Armageddon

Some strange and complicated situation arises (this cop-out comes because I'm not creative enough to set this up properly) where every game genre mysteriously vanishes from the face of the earth except for ONE. One genre has survived, and every game you play from now on IS that genre, so you'd better like it.

So which would you choose? Perhaps this thread will make it to this future war and the actual outcome will be determined by your vote! Eeep!

See? It's just like George Orwell's "1984". Except 18 years later. And it hasn't happened yet. Oh, and the whole video game part has been rewritten. OK it's probably closer to "Wuthering Heights" then.

Ha. First vote. And with that, I mark this topic close...wha? Not a mod? But if other people are allowed to vote, some of them will surely vote wrong! (i.e., not for shooters)

    That's so hard.
    so many paradoxes.
    I love baldur's gate, but can't stand ff/dragon warrior/grandia etc.
I love racing games, but I don't play them very often.
I love old platformers, but I can't be bothered with the newer ones.
    etc etc.
And what genre is GTA 3? hmmm... shooter maybe... racer... ehmm.... adventure..

    ugh, I'll just choose Racing.

    Misc. would be my answer.

I'd assume that, besides Pac-Man and DDR, Zelda would be included here. And survival horror stuff like Eternal Darkness. And whimsical stuff like Animal Planet. Not that I don't like the other genres, but I *need* to play Link to the Past every now and again. The fact that I'm allowed some variety (like Britney's Dance Beat!!!) is a bonus!

Hmm...I'm partial to shooters, but dammit, I just gotta think of the future. nothing wards away the boredom of nuclear winter like some 50+ hour RPG's.

I have to agree with Tetsu, I love RPGs beyond all hope. I spend more time playing RPGs than any other genre. Not because they are long but because of the mechaniacs itself.

But i have to say that I am addicted to Congo Bongo and Mr. Do recentily.

Must be a classic gaming site because I don't see sports games, my favorite, as an option =). Add in DDR and the other "Misc." games and that's my choice.

I love racing games but if "There can be only one" I'd have to pick RPG's.

Tough choice! I was really close to voting RPG, but I decided that would get boring. Puzzle and Misc. were also tempting, but in the end I voted for Platform. There are enough platformers with adventure and puzzle elements to satisfy my cravings for those genres and keep me happy. Or I could just play Jumpman forever and ever and ever.....

Nice list, Joe. I'll assume the sports games, flight sims, beat'em ups, and party games have perished under the nose cone of a thermonuclear MIRV.

I'll have to go with the miscellaneous category. I've played some ported Japanese simulation games that were redone in the English language or English subtitles. I like making the choices and seeing the results. One game has you guide a young waiter through the work week while balancing his college studies. The decisions you can make are nearly unlimited, as are the results.

BECAUSE survival horror rules mark me
down for what ever RE is shooter, Adventure, whatever
i think it deserves it's own category

I'm a MISC game man myself. The weirder the better. USually the weird games are the ones that can only exist in the videogame world, so I think that they show off the videogame concept in the purest way. There are other ways to play sports & rpg's etc. Games like Pac-Man and DDR I think are pure products of the video game world...

Or is that too snobby sounding?

RPG are my fav. But I need to play hockey as well. Where is the sports section? If that was on there I choose sports.
