Rare version of PSone hardware?

Hi guys,

I have a question for all you knowledgable PSone types. I found a PSone system at a thrift with no plugs. The connection for the AC adapter is thin instead of the usual one that's rounded on both sides that works with the original PlayStation and PS2. My question is that I'm wondering if this particular model is rare. I can't find an AC adapter that works with it, and everyone I've talked to has told me to go to Ebay or Sony.com because this particular model is either early or rare. Help!

Would it be possible for you to take a picture of it? I kind of have an idea, but without a picture I don't know if I'm even close.

Anything else different about it? Colors, stickers, etc?

I know that the model SCPH-7001 are tougher to locate than a 9001, 7501, or a 5501. You can check the sticker on the bottom to locate the model #. Differences in model were either due to the redesign or simplification of the motherboard, and the exclusion of the parallel I/O port on the back, but I've never hear of the power input being different.

So I have no idea what you're getting at with the power thing. AFAIK, all PSX models and the PS2 use an input that is squared on one end and rounded on the other. I believe it's a polarity thing, I have no idea.

And I'd assume we're discussing the gray PSX model not the compact PSOne, correct? The term 'AC Adapter' refers to the PSOne, 'AC cord' refers to PSX. Since you mentioned that the wire is usable on PSOne and PS2, I assume you're getting at the older model of Playstation.

No, I mean the compact PSone. I don't have a digital camera unfortunately, but the spot where the power cord should go is what I'm talking about. It looks like a long and thin one should fit there instead of the one that's rounded on both sides.

I know this is dumb, but are you sure you arent looking at the AV port?

If it is a PSOne, they do take different power supplies. I got a PSOne that was supposedly working in a package deal, but didn't get any hookups for it. It took me forever and $15.00 to finally get an AC Adaptor for it. They are NOT like the PSX ones at all, and are more like a NES one.

There is a thin connector for the AV Out.

Does that make sense? If there are two thin connectors on it, I really have no idea...

I'm thinking you're looking at the A/V port as well. If I'm not mistaken the PSOne and the PS2 take the same kind of A/V cable. If you have a PS2 you can see if it fits...my guess is that it will.

I've got a PSone, PSX, and a PS2. And I can tell you that (a) the A/V ports are identical for all three (I swap out machines all the time and put another one in), and (b) the power connector for the PSone is very different than the PSX/PS2 one.

For the PSone they moved some of the electronics out of the machine and into the power cable base (to help in the miniaturization of the machine).

Well the only thing I see back there thats long and skinny is the AV port.

I'm sorry, guys. I meant the "7.5 DC" power cord, not the AC adapter. I was typing this from a public library and being rushed off the computer, so forgive my idiocy.

Oh, and I have it in possession now. The other day, possession meant "hid it under some stuff in the back of a thrift store..."

I'm probably going to have to order one from Sony.

A PSone AC adapter can be substituted with a genesis 2 AC adapter.

A PS1 (grey) power cord is the same as most Saturn, all DC, and all PS2 power cords.
