My favorite platformer, if not my favorite game ever is Yoshi's Island. The level design is amazing, the music is great, and I could play that game forever. In my opinion the best Mario game ever.

SMW and SM All-Stars are indeed great platformers, but the one I feel should be mentioned in this topic is DOREMI FANTASY on Super Famicom. It stars Milon (Milon's Secret Castle) and is by Hudson(soft)

Absolutely BRILL platformer with all the classic themes you could ever want (ice, fire, woods, etc) and it's all done in a very polished package. It's about as charming as video games can get.

Highly recommended. It sadly is quite scarce and expensive. But trust me, you'll want to have a hard copy of this fine gem.

1 of the best I've ever played. I give it an enthusiastic 9.5/10

Nobody's mentioned any Goemon games yet? My favorite is Ganbare Goemon: Space Pirate Akogingu. Perfect control, killer sprite-based graphics, 3D robot fights, and great level design. It's my favorite Goemon game and one of my favorite platformers.

Another good platformer on the Japanese PS is Kitchen Panic (also available for Win 98). You play a potato who has to go through a kitchen taken over by canned goods to reclaim the stolen stew. The bulk of the game involves puzzles and jumping with very little enemy interaction.

Not to mention her breast plates is obviously hiding something nice

I forgot all about this one. The Genesis port Fatal Rewind seemed to get lost in the shuffle, like many Amiga ports to the consoles. I don't know if Killing Gameshow ever got a sequel?

Here's some great ones not mentioned yet:

C-64: Mayhem in Monsterland and Great Giana Sisters, the platforming Queen!

NES: loved Mystery Quest a game I never hear mentioned.

    SNES: Super Bonk

    Game Boy: Samurai Kid

    GBA: Sonice Advance 1&2

SMS: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World

Genesis: Valis Syd - imo the best one on the system

    BBC Micro: Citadel and Castlequest

    Atari 8 bit: Caverina

32X: Knuckles Chaotix (It's good it's just a little too long and tiresome)

I just finished it, really found it too easy. Still a great game, but I found the TG Bonk's to be a bit more rewarding.

Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis), Pandemonium (Saturn), Kid Icarus (NES), Cool Spot (SNES), Earthworm Jim (Genesis/SNES), Duck Tales (NES) are some good ones, some of which havent been mentioned.

Any Super Mario game from the NES and Super Mario world on SNES.

There are lots of good platform games (Sonic games for example), but Mario games just seem to play the best.
