Well, I'm not the only one with an amazing find this weekend but mine was pretty damned good! I managed to score not one, but TWO arcade machines for only $200 Cdn! And one...was a Neo Geo 6 slot dedicated arcade cab with a 25" monitor, memory card slot w/headphone jacks, and 6 games....mint condition and working great! Here's the stuff I bought and the story is below:
THE NEO! DAMN it's heavy!
Other cab (non-dedicated Sega MVP)
Marquee of the Neo...great stuff!
The screen....look..so crisp!
So...for those of you that want to know, here's the story. I was talking to a local guy on the phone about some Neo Geo stuff and he mentioned that he'd seen a Neo Geo cab in the next town over....that he thought it was a 6 slot cab, and that it's in some abandoned pool hall. I think...well, why not try and see what it is? So I went down there the next day and checked out the building. Sure enough, visible behind the grimy window in an abandoned junked up shop is a Neo Geo 6 slot. Can't see much though.
So I call the realtor's number on the window. "We can't give out that information but try so and so." Great...hopes are shot. So I figure....well, I'll go to these people's place and ask...what can it hurt? Turns out they own the building and the lady's brother owns the machines. So I set up a meeting for yesterday with him and he comes over and we look at the machine. It has World Heroes, Sengoku, Burning Fight, Alpha Mission 2, Ninja Combat, and Fatal Fury in it, all US carts, all mint like new. It looks CHERRY inside....like new almost, very clean, etc etc. But we can't find the power switch and it doesn't turn on. Disappointment. He mentions that he has ANOTHER cab downstairs so I look at it. Sega MVP...ok shape, he says the monitor doesn't work. Fine with me. We go back up, and I do the "hmmmmmm" thing and then offer him $150 for the Neo cause I don't know if it'll work. He says "why not just take both cabs for $200?" and I said...."hmmmm...sure!".
I come back today with a truck and in-laws to help move these machines. We haul them SLOWLY out....DAMN That Neo is heavy! Online, I find out that the power switch is behind the coin door....yay! So I get the thing into the garage, take the bolts off the locks from the inside...and away we go! Pull off the locks, put things back together, and boom, there's the power switch...and $3 in quarters! Yay! So I plug it in and turn it on....and...NOTHING. SOB! IT's not working! Why isn't it working??? So I look in the back. Seems there are 4 contacts on the power switch. 3 of them don't have anything hooked up and the clips are lying loose in the cab. Hmmmmm. Had to go online and ask for friendly advice, given by teh awsome and knowledgeable chris1 on Neo-Geo.com! Yay! It POWERS UP!
Look at the monitor...crisp, clear, no need for caps. Everything works...sound, coin mechs, everything. Joysticks need recalibrated BADLY, but that's it! A mint Neo Geo 6 slot MVS for $100 Cdn! I don't yet know if the memory card slot or headphone jacks (yes, it even has 2 headphone jacks!) work....yet. I do know that the 20+ carts I already had all seem to work so far tho! Man am I gonna have fun tomorrow playing that!
Oh yeah...teh MVP with the dead monitor....turns out it's just missing the board that attaches to the monitor...looks mint inside too and probably works fine Don't know what game is in it though...he said it wasn't MVP....
