Default fav original version of DOOM

Post your favorite port of the original Doom and why. Also if you want tell us your least favorite and why. And I only included consoles, no handhelds.

My favorite is probably still the Jaguar version. That was the first one I ever played, the PSX version is cool because of the Doom II add on but the orginal seems to be censored in some parts of the game, like some of the bodies were taken out of the port.

My least fav used to be the 3DO port due to the brown boarder but since I've gotton a bigger TV it's not so bad.

I always have and will prefer the good old PC version. All the others seemed to irritate me in one way or another.

The only one on that list I have is the SNES version. I would hardly call it my favorite though.

On the list or not, I pick the PS1 port because it's the best version I have of the original game.

    PSX verison was my favorite

The Saturn port was just basically the PSX verison

The GBA Verison is the Jaugaur Port (24 levels total )

Didn't pick any of em....I pretty much liked just the pc version. The psx version is pretty good but the repetetive ambient music annoys me. The PC version is and was the best. I have the jaguar version but it seems devoid of music. It has a listing for it in the manual even, but then on that page of the manual is instructions for something else, so it's kind of a silent game, heh. Same with Wolfenstein 3D. Just sound effects....unless I'm missing something?

Wasn't the Saturn port far worse though? Never played the PSX version but I have the Saturn version. It moves slow, graphics look bad for some stuff, and sfx sound muffled. Not a fan of the new music in it either.

If we're talking strictly about ports and not the PC original, my vote would go to the GBA version playing on a Game Boy Player.

    Default .

I have the 32X version (but no hardware to play it on )

    SNES version
    3D0 version
    Saturn version

I don't like the SNES version, the play area on the screen is too small. I've only played the 3D0 version briefly, seemed to sway a lot when you walked.

Never seen it on the Jaguar.

Prolly the Saturn version from the list. Altough I have to agree that I like the PS1 version best - currently I am playing Final Doom on the PS1.

PC version for me. Though the N64 was quite good too, though was way too dark (even with the brightness turned all the way to max).

The PC version is the only one I care to play if only for the deathmatches over 14.4 kbps dial-up with a buddy that has a functional 486DX2/66 (anything less seems too slow). With a worthy opponent, I'll be tying up my phone line for hours.

Looks like you left out an important choice on your poll. I too prefer the PC version, wouldn't really play any other one. I would say the WORST for me, would have to be the SNES version, don't get me wrong, it was Doom alright, but it just had alot of little things that annoyed me. Like for instance, if I remember right monsters would always be facing you no matter what, which can be annoying when you're fighting against alot of guys. One of my favorite things about the PC version used to be making the monsters fight each other, which you can't do if they're always facing you.

Oh yeah, I also just remembered something. I think you could only go to the third episode on "Ultra-Violence" skill level, one step below nightmare.... why did Williams do this?? As a kid, before I had a PC this SNES version was my only way to play doom after having played it and been wowed by it on a friends computer, and I mean I'm sort of a natural on these FPS-type games, but sorry, I can't kill 20 cacodemons and a baron of hell who are all unwaveringly facing me with four buttons and my little directional pad.

It's great that they managed to port this to SNES, though. But god damn if these little annoyances didn't drive me crazy. Also being that I have a PC now, and that there are several Doom ports people are making that take advantage of 3d accelerated graphics and good stuff like that, there's literally no reason for me to play this SNES version, nadda. I do dig the red cartridge though.

Unless it's the pretty unique N64 title, then I'm only playing the PC original. Best game ever - at least in my book. Seriously. When the game was relatively fresh, I owned (still do) all of the DZone expansions and every other freeware add-on I could find/download. I even created a few of my own mods, which was very very exciting at the time. With MIDI, I developed my own soundtrack for the game - sweet.

I pick the PSX version. I love the Tower of Bable level ( I think that is what it is callled) . After you walk to a certain point tons of monster appear. I love cutting through all of them with the chain saw!!

The PS1 version is the best port IMO. The music does get annoying at times tho. Too bad they couldnt put the Arch Rival monster in the Doom 2 part of the game. Something about too many frames of animation.

I like the PSX version, but the Jaguar version was also damn good too!

In fact I think the Jaguar version was dramatically underrated. It didn't have background music, so it caught tons of slack for that, but other than no background music, it's still amazing, at least for the Jag, anyways.
