    Default Sega Master System Cards

Ok, I could never get this to work. I have Transbot and Ghost House cards for SMS. I don't know how to use them though! My carts work just fine, but is playing the cards as simple as the carts? I turn on the system with the card in (but not the cart) and get the game that was programmed into the system. What am I not doing?

Make sure the card is pushed in enough... I get this a lot to. It seems that the carts i have all tend to work better than the cards... sometimes it takes me many a try to get them to work.

Try using a cleaner to clean the cards and the card slot... I've never had to do this but it just might work.

You SMS may just be breaking down on you though... but that's a rare occurence. Let me know how things turn out.

Is it just me or are the cards a pain in the ass to find? I mean, I have friggin VF Animation complete, and I can't find a lousy SMS card.

I found my first Sega card not too long ago, Ghost house. The funny thing is, it's got the box, the plastic sleeve, and the poster, but no manual. What's up with that?

I have all the SMS card games, and those bloody Master System Gnomes stole my Ghost house manual as well!

Kind of off-topic, but does anyone know what all SMS games are incompatible with the Power Base Converter? I believe ShinobiMan mentioned something about this recently but I don't remember where I found it. I'm thinking of selling my boxed Master System and just keeping the Power Base Converter to play my games on. But I'm wondering what games I'll be missing out on, if some don't work through it.

Just about every SMS game can boot up on the Power Base Convertor, but these games do not work with the Genesis controll pad:

    Alien Syndrome
    Bomber Raid
    Great Volleyball
    Montezuma's Revenge
    Shanghai
Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?
    Wonderboy in Monsterland
    Tennis Ace

One thing to note... of the two Tec Toy Brazilian SMS games I have, I had to use the Power Base in order to actually play them, I could not get them to work on the SMS 1.

Cool thanks! I just tested out Bomber Raid on my Power Base Convertor to see what you're talking about. I could only fire, couldn't control it, it flew all the way up to the top of the screen. But it worked fine when I plugged my SMS controller into the Genesis.

So I guess it's safe to sell off the SMS now. The Power Base is way smaller.

Glad I could help! I may be able to help take the boxed SMS off your hands to... how much? Thanks.

It's not surprising Brazilian games didn't work on USA system. USA systems (and I believe SMS 1 in Europe,. maybe SMS 2 too) uses the checksum from the header to verify the game. Brazilian games (and older SC-3000 games) don't have the checksum information and won't load. Power base converter doesn't use the checksum information so anything words but you can't use F-16 card because it uses a video mode that was intentionally left out from the Genesis.

Game Gear can also work with the card game (you need a converter to do that) and it can use any game as it also doesn't use the checksum info either.

And I agree using the card game's a major PITA. But nowhere near as bad as trying to get the 32X to work all the time.

I have 2 mark 1 SMS and both Virtua Fighter Animation and Street Fighter 2' work fine on them. I can't get them to load up on my game gear, though.
