    Default Megadrive overclocking

Ive heard of people overclocking their megadrives/genesis and they claim the final speed is something like 13-16 mhz but..... while reading a retro issue of Edge i stumbled upon a page with the tech specs and the main cpu was a 68000 m running at 7.67 mhz but it also listed a co processor the Z80a running at 3.58 mhz so the total speed would have been 11.25 mhz now seing as overclocking the 68000 to say 13 mhz + the 3.58 coprocesser would mean a final speed of 16.58 mhz! and why has no one attempted overclocking both the 68000 and the z80a

    thanks for reading

You can't just sum up the MHz of both CPUs, they always work independently and have different tasks. Besides, I don't see why one should overclock consoles, except "because you can" ;)

ah i think i see now but the overclocking caused many problems. i guess sega stuck with 7.67 mhz because it caused least glitchs? or the games were completly designed only to be running on a 7.67 mhz processer and a 3.58 mhz coprocesser real headscracthing

Try searching for "overclocking" and "Genesis" in the forum's search engine. For a while it seemed like there were three new topics a day about it. You might also want to contact the user Epicenter, he dedicated a lot of time and knew quite a bit about the topic.

Why would you do something like this. I can see over clocking the Nes to get ride of its sprite and lag problems but the genesis games I've come across had none of that.

    Sorry about the thred jack.

Don't bother contacting Epicenter for a mod - I did so several months ago and still have not received my Genesis or money back.

He MAY know how to do it, but his services are not recommended.

Yikes. Well I'm sure he's been quite busy on his quest to shut down every Power Joy III seller in every mall in America ...

I have a stack of Genny's I've picked up over the last year from thrift stores. I'd be glad to give one of them a new home if you need another one!
