Default What's valuable for Atari 2600?

I've seen a lot of Atari 2600 games around at rummage sales and whatnot, and I never know if I should buy any or not... I'm not collecting, just looking for bargains to fund my video game hobby My hobby funds itself or it doesn't get funded at all according to my wife hehe.

When I'm out and about, what 2600 cartridges should I be on the lookout for to make some money?

    Another thread from here noted

    Air Raid
    Gauntlet
    Video Life
    Eli's Ladder
    Magicard

    Thanks!

Chase the chuck wagon (not very rare)
    Tooth Protectors
    Glib
    Halloween
    Texas chainsaw massacre
    Berenstien bears (only boxed)
    Xante games
    BMX airmaster (us version)
    Motorodeo (us version)
Music Machine (especially with the record)
    Condor Attack
    Video reflex

I believe that sums it up.

the easiest answer would be to tell you to pick up the Digital Press Collector's Guide Seventh Edition. It is only $25, helps the DP site, and will tell you all the price info you want to know. I just got mine a week or two ago, and I have been a member here for almost a year. All I can say about it is that I don't know why I didn't buy one the day I joined here.

Oh and, btw, if you just happen to swing by a few river patrols, gauntlets, cakewalks, magicards and quadrun's to "fund" you game collection, make sure you get in touch with me. =D

If you are like any of the vendors in my area, ALL OF THEM! All Atari games sell for $20 apiece on eBay!

Unfortuantely, you WILL NOT find any of those titles you mentioned. You have better odds of winning the lottery at this point. If you don't own something special from 'back in the day,' your chances of finding any of the games listed are incredibly low.

Get the Digital Press guide- but don't carry it around at your tag sales, unless you never want a deal again.

    Do you mean Dark Chambers?

The Gauntlet listed here has nothing to do with the arcade game.

    Hey thanks folks

I assume you mean BOXED atari games will go for $20? hehe

And not sure about the price guide. If I got one it would be the advanced or whatever that covers the little later stuff. And TBH the few times I've checked it for prices it's been well off of what I normally see. I totally understand why, prices are way more volatile than how quickly you can update something in print =/ All the extra information is cool, tho

I did find a neat site: www.atariage.com has a great rarity guide. Doesn't list a price, but rarity by itself is a fair, if not perfect, indicator.

    Thanks! Here goes

"Atari Age?" Never heard of the place.

You do realize DP also has an online rarity guide? Take a look at the menu at the top of this page - between Game Rooms and DP Mailing List. It also has prices if you're into that sort of thing.

Yeah, but you can't see a lot of stuff at once comprehensively on DP's rarity guide. *shrug*

Shhh. You must not mention "the site we dont speak off".

But seriously Atari Age does have a very good 2600 rarity guide, I like it.

If you want to make some money from me, I am looking for the uncommon title Tapper for the 2600. DP lists it as a rarity 5+ selling for around 25 loose.
