    So yeah...

Who wants to loan me $202 for shipping?

    I'm good for it.

    Honest.

In all seriousness, how often do these pop up on Ebay? It looks like a pretty cool thing to own.

If anything, I'd just like to get my hands on a US cart of "Devil World." I suppose my Famicom cart will have to suffice.

Last time one popped up I dont believe it was complete. I wouild love to ahve one but not for $500 shipped. Would be great if one popped up at CGE or in US, wouldn't have to ship it.

Man, that is SO SWEET! I wish I could get that.

There's only a little over a day left, though. Do you think it will sell? $500 for something like that seems resonable in that condition.

THIS is a PERFECT example, BTW, of HOW to list a auction!

Damn that thing looks sweet. Wrecking crew! One of my favorite games. The price seems fairly resonable to me.

That is very cool. That's also one of the most highly detailed and useful auction descriptions I've ever read. I wish all ebay sellers were like that.

There's a possibility of there being a US "Devil World" cart in that auction, yes.

If you'll note, all of the games used in the Famicombox are American-style cartridges. Big cases, 72 pins, and whatnot... They're black (rather than the standard grey) and sport yellow labels.

Near the end of the auction's listing, the seller states that "10 of the 15 following games will be included with auction." One of the possible 15 games is indeed "Devil World."

That thing is really, really neat. I'm with MarioAllStar2600 on this one. I can only hope that these begin to show up in the U.S. The shipping is just too high to justify its purchase at the moment.

Heh. A set of keys to actually open the thing would be nice, too.

    As a side note...

I'm very surprised that I haven't seen any mention of the "strange black US Nintendo carts with the Japanese writing on them."

Have cartridges like the one contained in the Famicombox been spotted in the wild? I can't imagine running across one outside of one of these machines. I imagine that the discovery of one would turn quite a few heads on these forums.

But then again, I'm new here.

Have any of these special black cartridges popped up elsewhere?

I agree also that $300 is fair its just the shipping that sucks.

Um, the Famicombox is Japanese. You'd be getting a 72-pin Japanese cart. If you really want an NES version of Devil World, seek thee out the European version.

The Famicombox is indeed Japanese. But the cartridges used in the system share far more in common with US NES games than Japanese Famicom games (e.g. cartridge size, number of pins). As Japan uses NTSC instead of PAL, I would assume that any of the cartridges within the Famicombox could be transplanted, without need of an adapter, to a US NES.

If your original post is meant to express that "Devil World" will be in the Japanese language, my only response is "it doens't really matter."

    Seriously.

"Devil World" isn't the most complex game out there. Other than the title screen, I believe there's only one sentence featured onscreen throughout the entire game. Something like "Defeat the demon blah blah blah."

If I were to get my hands on a PAL copy, I'd still need an adapter.

Am I crazy? Reading your post incorrectly?

These are not normal NES carts. They have specific code to be "recognized" by the Famicombox. In fact, I don't think they're compatible with a plain ol' NES at all.

And even if they were, what makes you think that you wouldn't need to kill the lockout chip to run this anyway? I really doubt these cartridges contain a lockout kill for an American NES. You'd have to kill the lockout anyway, and if you're doing that, you might as well get the PAL version, which has absolutely no timing issues at all.

    Um...

I think my lack of knowledge surrounding the carts contained in Famicomboxes was just demonstrated.

Seriously. The knowledge that you demonstrated just fucked me in the face.

    Ah well.

    Thanks.
