    Phase Alternating Line.

    As opposed to NTSC (National Television Standards Committee, or, as I call it for short, "Nutsy") and SECAM (Sequential Color Memory).

    means you can't playing it in north america.... unless you spend extra cash to have a pal TV, inverter for the power, pal video game system, and pal games to go with it.

    I've got two monitors that play a nice PAL signal back and run on U.S. voltage, so there are "multi-standard" monitors out there for those so inclined.
