I dont see how its so hard to believe. My PS1 was bought when they first put them in the red box and changed the laser to the right side(scph-5501-94005) in 1997, and it still works perfectly. Just take care of ya shit thats all.

I recommend waiting for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas coming out in sometime in October.
If you like RPGs (and don't want them to all be Final Fantasy clones), get Star Ocean 3. It has a less-than-stellar localization (part of the reason why I'm sticking with my Japanese version for the time being), but you shouldn't know the difference while playing unless you have experience with the Japanese release.
R-Type Final. Enough unlockables to last you your life.
And La pucelle are good choices.

Pick up Disgaea/La Pucelle/Phantom Brave for a great strategy rpg experience.
Highly recomend Mega man anniv. edition (yes it is for PS2)

It's older than a month but I recommend Champions of Norrath. It's RPGish w/ lots of action & tons of items to collect, w/ multiplayer on/offline. If you like Diablo & Baldur's Gate, it's your thing, plus it's half price ($25) now.
BTW, my Launch Day PS2 is still chugging along fine too. So there.
