I've read a few posts from people asking why certain TI or C64 cartridges aren't listed in the guide and the answer has always been that it wasn't a game. Why then are carts like Odyssey 2 Computer Intro and Atari's Basic Programming listed with the rest of the games?

Probably because there wasn't a section 8 (non-games, utlities and etc) classification before. I put stuff like Visible Solar System, Music Composer and so on for the C64 in the regular sections because as said, I would always be asked why they weren't in there! Just a way to stop people asking all the time

Now section 8 exists, I'll be going through and reclassifying a few of the entries where fit. Whether they appear in the printed guide (and not just the online one) is unknown, I'm not sure if Joe will use section 8 for the physical version yet or not.

But you're right, they should really be moved to this new section now...

I think the non games for the O2 Intellivision and the 2600 and stuff should stay in the us releases. Those systems are meant to be game systems and not computers so it seems fit for them to stay there. As for the TI99 C64 and other computers the non games shoulld be moved to the non game section, because compuers were meant for more than just gaming.

I'm wondering, personally, why classic computers haven't gotten their own book yet. But then I think about the sheer number of games produced for them, not just on cartridges but on disks, and it makes me stop thinking about it.

Anyone ever considered doing a computer game rarity guide?

I'd totally be up to doing a computer book. I thought about it before but where would we draw the line. It would be hard to catalog everything.

Just a start of how many classic computers

    Mattel Aquarius

    Commodore plus/4 vic 20 c64, c128

    Video Brain

    Tomy Tutor

    IBM

    PC JR.

and the rest of their series of classic pcs

    Spectravideo

    TRS 80

    TI99/4A and compatible

    Atari Computer

    plus everything non us released

    plus more

The list goes on and on and would be a huge feat, but well worth the effort.

That's the thing. Check out old-computers.com if you want a sense of scale.

I can just imagine trying to track down info on every single retail-sold DOS or Apple II game -- though I'm sure some have tried.

Actually the other question that I was going to ask was how come the guide or online database doesn't list Atari computer games that were released on cartridge like they do for the C64. I can understand that documenting diskette and CDs games would be too large of a job but the cartridge games should't really be any harder than the the existing guides were to make.

Atari computer carts are listed as "Atari XE".

I understand that Atari computer games were compatible with the Atari XE but weren't there games made specifically for the XE with XE on the label? these are the games that I thought were in the XE section of the guide but truthfully I didn't examine this chapter yet.

The Atari XE list contains all of the Atari computer carts including the XE style carts.

Read the intro to the Atari XE/8-bit section of the book - it's all explained there.
