the only problem with buying them is that if you ever need to expand sometimes finding a matching one can be impossible.
building custom shelves isnt too hard (or expensive) and you can make them as wide and as high as you like

I'm getting my brother in law to build me some custom shelves. Woodworking is his hobby and he's built a sleigh bed for himself and is currently working on a custom entertainment unit for me.

I can't wait to be able to put my carts in slots instead of stacking them on top of each other.

    Go to IKEA.

My entire console collection and their TV are all on display (and connected) on STEN shelving. I'm gonna need to expand it another length too (easy and cheap) since I got the DC and the Saturn this last week. It's totally customizable, and all you need is a flathead screwdriver, or crescent wrench.

Be warned, it's NOT living room shelving at all, being unfinished pine, and it's "slatted". This could be easily remedied with cardboard, or any hard flat substance. In a "collection room" or basement it's fine though, IMO. Comes in two depths, 31cm and 51cm. I'm using 51cm and it's plenty room. However I am looking into bookcases for the software only, as it is now, both are on the STEN, and it's getting ugly. Time to separate. If I was using it for games and mags only, I'd go with 31cm.
