Default Final Fantasy newbie at large

Ok I will admit that I have never in my life played a final fantasy game I am pretty behind so I really could use some help here

I heard from BalloonFight that I should get FF-X to start me out and that should cut me back a couple weeks. and I will move on to X-2 ...couple more weeks.

But after that what FF games should I buy and play, play and play more of?
I hear real good things about Final Fantasy VII.

I am looking forward to becoming a FF junky so will someone...

    Help This Newbie At Large!

    10 is ok.
    12 Sucks.
Pick up Final Fantasy Anthology for PS. ( Has FF 3 known as VI )

Play FF 3 and FF 7.

The ps2 ones kinda blow compare to the older ones.

    Also, try chrono trigger.

    Yeah.

But they re-released Chrono Trigger + FF 4 remixed ( Prev ff II ) as Final Fantasy Chronicles for the playstation. You can pick up this one game for like 20 bucks as a greatest hits brand new.

Final fantasy 12 not even out yet. Anyways, i thought that square pretty much went down hill after they left nintendo... so i couldn't really give you a non bias view of 7-11,(or chrono cross) but i can tell you right now that ff3 and chrono trigger were some of squares best works ever.

I would say avoid the remakes (chronicles and anthology) for playstation. Just because they have some bad slowdown and loading times. Your better off just using the old carts.

Trying to tell you which ones to play is kinda like asking someone for their favorite song, or art piece -- you'd get 100 different answers from 100 different people.

Personaly, I enjoy each and every FF game -- but then, I'm a huge nut of the series.

But tell us more about what you're looking for. Do you enjoy complex games or simple ones? Detailed plot or hardly any plot at all? Graphics and FMV's important? Do you care if you play the original, the remake, or a translated ROM ona e mulator? Do you prefer older style RPG's or the newer ones?

The series has been around so long, and there have been so MANY different things done, there's at least ONE game out there we can direct you to and that you'll probaly enjoy. I've never met anyone who has'nt liked at least ONE of the 15 official FF games. (RPG haters aside, that is. )

I too would recommend FF3/6. I'm a big RPG fan, but I think FF7 sucks a big one. I also don't think too highly of FF8 to the present games, but I've been smart enough to not subject myself to playing through the whole games when I know the chances of me despising the games is very high. However, my opinion is not the norm, so you very well may enjoy them. Judging by how you like Chrono Cross (which I didn't like much besides the character artwork and some of the music), the modern ones probably are more up your alley.

If you like FF3/6, do give the older ones a try. There are official US versions of all but the real FF3.

Oh yeah you should also check out the uber awesome final fantasy tactics. It's not a rpg per say (it's a srpg), but i wouldn't argue if it was called the best game to ever bear the FF name.

Well since you put it that way SoulBlazer....

A good RPG to me has to have some key points to me...

A good storyline is a must, cinematics all through the game bring life to a games and graphics..dont matter to me really, finally gameplay mechanics and overall it needs to have some good characters in it.
