Not working TG-16, or so I think

Alright, finally snagged a cheap Kieth Courage so I could test my TG-16. Finally home from college, and plugged in the AC, which looks to be first party to me, and used a Nintendo RF adapter. I tried, and I got no picture or anything, and I tried again and again. Now, I've never used a TG-16, so I don't know what to look for, or anything. I can't tell if the actual system is busted (if so...I'm pissed) or maybe the power supply is dead. I dunno, could use some advice.

i dont own one (yet) but does it have a LED light to indicate wether there is power to it, liek on a genesis? if no power is there u either have a dud power supply or dud system...

nope there is no LED it's probably your PS or maby the HuCard.

Well, if that's the case, I'm fine with that. I can replace those things easily, or atleast more easily than getting a new TG-16.

My friend got flooded out and his turbo was on the floor and it got soaked. It still works perfect to this day, the system is pretty strong.

Well, heh, that's starting to make me feel better about the system. Hopefully the power supply was just toast.

Three things possible here:

Power supply is dead (this is easy to confirm with a multimeter).

The fuse inline to the power source has blown and needs to be replaced, easy enough once you open the system. It's just a standard glass tube fuse.Thing is the entire motherboard is encased in metal shielding that is soldered into place. You'll need a soldering iron with some desoldering braid or pump to get in there.

The RF port is worn out and you need to find a different RF device with a thicker plug (third party ones tend to be good). This is a pretty common problem with TG-16 consoles, I've found 2 out of 3 units to have defective RF ports. One solution is to wire yourself a composite cable by tapping into the expansion port pins in the back.

Ahg crap. I tried an NES AC this time, no show. I don't have the bit to open it, so I really can't try that, and well, wiring up a composite cable sounds a bit more than my electric 'skills' can handle.

stupid question: are you sure you have the hucard pushed in all the way? That's what my problem was. and i'm sure everyone remebers my embarassing topic on it too. Anyway, that's all the help I can really offer...I hope you get it working, it's one of my all time favorite systems.

i was going to mention that also
if you cant slide the power switch over, the card isnt in all the way

Heh, no, I could slide the switch over, so I atleast got the hucard that far in.

I'm going with this one. I don't have a TG but atleast on my PC-E the polarity is + outside and - inside. I never seem to remember that until I've blown the fuse.

If it was already dying, the NES adapter probably finished it off. NES use AC-AC adapters... TG16 uses AC-DC adapters.

This is kind of stupid, but maybe you overlooked it...

iIs the channel switch on the side of your system set properly?

If it is, good luck with what Bratwurst said; because if it's a dirtly TurboChip, the system will produce a one color screen.

Yeah, I tried both channels. I bet the system's fuse is probably blown.
