but yeah, technically France uses SECAM, but if the have a -FRA suffix on the part number, they are PAL-compatible (PAL-B to be precise, but they should play on any PAL NES). Oddly, around a quarter of the NES games I've found in the UK have been French releases.

Look if they had a "-CAN" on the label. The manual and box have english and french text on it.

French NES carts are just PAL-B carts, so the same as the ones from Germany, Scandinavia and Spain for example.
Examples of NES games released in french are:

Maniac Mansion
Mission Impossible
Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque
Swords and Serpents
and some more
