All versions of HL2 come with Counter Strike: Source, so I'm still not sure if this is some kind of special retail version with HL2 only.

    Info about the retail versions....

"Two will be the retail versions: a standard edition that will contain the game on six CDs, as well as its multiplayer version, Counter-Strike: Source. The standard edition will also have three different characters--hero Gordon Freeman, heroine Alyx, and the sinister G-man--on different versions of the box.

The second retail version, the Collector's Edition, will come with Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Half-Life 1: Source, a remake of the original game with Valve's new engine. The Collector's Edition will also be on a single DVD and be bundled with a Half-Life 2 T-shirt and a Prima strategy-guide sampler. "

I think I'll take a chance and get it.

PC Games really don't always retail for that much since you have to dump the price of a console's worth of hardware into your computer every time you want to play a new game

    Who says?

One good upgrade to a computer -- video card, nine times out of 10 -- and you're fine for three years.

I mean, really. This is why I get ticked when people complain about PC games. I'm a HUGE PC gamer. It's NOT something you need to spend major money into every year.

Just get a GOOD system to START with -- get a top of the line video card, a very good processor, two 512k memory chips, a 19 inch or larger monitor, and a 5.1 speaker system. And a large hard drive and a good CD drive.

Yes, that will run you about $1000-1500.

Once you HAVE that, though, you're fine for three years, when it's time to replace the video card and maybe the processor.

Us serious PC gamers know this.

Same here, I love Unreal, Counter Strike, Doom.....

As for a system, I would suggest custom building one because there are so many advantages with one then buying a Dell or whatever. Try doing major upgrading to a dell and you will see what I mean.

OK, $1,500 for a complete custom built computer. After three years, you need a new $150 video card, then the next year you need a new cpu, which requires a new mobo, which requires new ram half the time. So theres $300-$500. Next year, you're going to need a new hard drive for $120, then sounds card for $50 the year after that, and that brings us back to video card.

Don't get me wrong, I have a computer capable of playing anything out there right now. But the fact remains, that for a PS2, you have to spend $200 for it to last 4-5 years.

For a computer, the above VERY REALISTIC scenario, you just spent $500 a year for the first three years, then about $200 a year for EVERY year after that until the end of eternity. That makes PC Gaming more expensive, and I didn't even take into account DVD Burners, power supplies, and toys.

Hmm, cool you can play as the G-Man guy who followed you around. Why couldn't they just make a dvd version of this for PC and eliminate the need for 6 cds?

    Who cares about HL2?

Have you played CS:Source yet? I just bought it off Steam, and holy crap, it's absolutely fantastic.

I suggest everyone to get this (CS:Source and HL2 when it comes out)asap.
