    Default Posible broken Saturn controler

After picking up a new game for the Saturn and replacing the battery in it, I decided to try the game out. I got to the language select screen but was unable to do anything more as no imput from the controler was accepted from either the P1 or P2 port. I am wondering if the controler could posibly be damaged as the part that plugs into the system rattles as if it was loose. Was this a known problem in the controlers? Is there any posible way to fix it? Any help is apreciated.

Do you have any other controllers? Can you try the controller you have as player 2?

Unfortunitly I have not been able to find a second controler localy. I have tried it from both the 1st player port as well as the second player port. I never had this problem before untill I recently changed the battery in the system. I cant imagine why that would have an effect like what I am having though.

    bump?

Any help/advice would be apreciated. I am tempted to take the controler apart but worry I could be doing more harm then good.

I don't see why you are so worried about taking the controller apart....at worst you could lose one of those rubber pads under the buttons.

I am historicly my own worse enemy when it comes to taking apart game systems. I have taken apart 12 over the years and have only managed to put 4 of them back together. 2 of them were 2600 joysticks (damned hard to screw up there) but everything else has met with failure. If I could remember how, I'd put back my first DC. I took that baby apart peice by peice and now I cant remember where anything goes.

When taking anything apart i use a thin piece of styrofoam and put all my screws in it in the shape of whatever i am taking apart (say..an NES) that way i know where my screws go. I'd also seperate my parts/screws/whatever into groups and put them in cups (if they fit), that way you know where each goes. Larger parts you can group together or perhaps place in stackable bins and layer them based on thier order from top to bottom.

As far as the Saturn controller, its not that much more complicated (parts-wise) inside than a normal Genesis 6-button controller...it just has the extra L+R buttons on the top.

Give it a shot, you might fix it and learn something about how it works. If it doesnt work out for ya then I got an extra Saturn controller i could part with.

Thanks for the help, I'll try it out this weekend.

Wish me luck. I'll need it.

Hey, trust yourself. You got as far as taking it apart without breaking anything, so the worst you can do is simply have it not work when you put it back together. And if that's all, then you just get the practice the disassembly process again until you finally get everything in the right order.

I've made more progress by taking things apart than by just letting them sit and saying "I can't do that myself." My Sega CD is almost fixed, my NES works better (though I've still got to crack it open again and fix the 72-pin connector), and my SNES works flawlessly.

And controllers? Controllers are easy, especially simple joypads. I've refreshed two NES pads and two Genesis pads back to near-perfect functionality, and figured out why two others wouldn't work no matter what. Exploration is the key!

Well, took the controler apart this last weekend and couldnt find any problems. Took the part that plugs into the system apart as well and couldnt find any problems there either. I am left believing that the problem is somewheres in the cord. Hopefully this weekend or over Thanksgiving I can cut the covering off to see if any wires are broke.......after that, I know I will need a new controler.
