Default I FINALLY beat Dragon's Lair!!

I never had the time or money to complete Dragon's Lair during it's original arcade heyday. But now, thanks to the magic of emulation, I finally, FINALLY, was able to beat it yesterday. Took me a few days of practice, but once I got back into the swing of it the patterns started to come back to me and I was also able to figure out how to beat the lair part completely on my own (I never was able to get that far originally so I never bothered to learn the patterns for it.)

After twenty years, I finally beat the damn thing.

(Note: I'm talking about the arcade version here, the console versions have slightly different patterns and I don't consider them to be the same thing..)

    Congrats!

That's a game I beat "back in the day". I was a Dragon's Lair junkie for a few weeks, then Space Ace, and then Dragon's Lair II. I LOVED the technology.

Ask me to do it today, I'm sure I'd fail miserably but I was at one time "The Wizard of Bluth"

Actually I should try this.. Especially with the Daphne emu being so easily playable on both the pc and xbox.

It was only with a couple of plays back in the day that I gave it up. Not for the gameplay, but for the price per play!

These days when I play it casually I can get past most scenes.. I have trouble on some like the lava monsters.. but I think I could probably get to the Dragons Lair with a little patience as I do know most of the scenes.

Space Ace however... I could never even get past the friggin first scene!

Wow, I too was one of the first to beat Dragons Lair at the local arcade

I have a friend who could (not sure if he could still do it) play and beat the entire game Blindfolded. Boy, we sure had too much much free time then...

    Now time to tackle

    Space Ace
    Cliff Hanger
    Super Don Quixote

    Good luck!

Knowing how badly that game kicks my ass all over the place, I can wholeheartedly say congrats on beating the game. I myself have picked it up and put it down several times, getting a bit further each time. I'd have to say I'm half way thru, knowing full well it's the easy half. I will beat this game some day, to the amazement of the 80's crowd still stuck in my head. Everyone else in my house could care less...
I'm just trying to keep from losing my mind!

Didn't DL cost $1 to play back then? It would have cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get that good.

Nope, 50 cents -- at least the one I saw. In fact, Dragon's Lair was the first video game I ever saw that was fifty cents. And, I remember seeing this with my own eyes, when you got halfway through the game, it would prompt you for another 50 cents (even if you hadn't died!). I've since read that this was an option that could be turned on or off.

Dragon's Lair was the second game I think I ever saw that had two monitors as well, Punch-Out being the first. Some Dragon's Lair machines had a second monitor up on top showing the main screen, so that the crowds of people gathering around could see what was going on.

    Good times.

Ya know thats one good thing about living overseas at an Air Base. All the games in the base bowling alley and arcade cost only 25 cents, including Killer instinct and house of the dead.

The ones I saw were ALL $1, and for that reason they never got much play. It's why to this day I've never played the arcade version.
