Default Should I get Sega cd OR CDX system?

Recently my sega CD (Fliptop model) broke and I was considering....
Should I get Sega CD or Sega CDX system? I was thinking the CDX might be cool because it would free up some space but I want to be sure it's compatible. Are there any incompatabilities between CDX and regular Sega CD? Also, I have lots of Sega CD games but I have 5 copied which ran fine on my original but are they compatible with CDX also? Thanks for your help/opinions etc!

A CDX is a sega CD all the way, does everything a Sega CD can and can't do. Including playing burns if you have 'em.

    I love my CDX

I'm a hardcore nintendo fan too, but my collection would never be worth anything to me without my Sega CDX and Sonic CD, those just go hand in hand.

The only drawback to having the Sega CDX replace your genesis & segacd is that it's apparently REALLY hard to hook up a Sega 32X to it. I hear that it's possible, but by no means realiable or easy to do. But since no one has mentioned it yet in this thread, I assume that it's not really a concern.

I got my Sega CDX off ebay last year, in immaculate condition and I love it! Plays backups too! I gott pull that bad boy out of the box and get my Popful Mail going booooooooooooooooooooy!

Agreed. I only use the CDX. Works for everything!

I'm pretty sure there are a few games that have issues with the CDX, but maybe those have problems with the Sega CD model 2 as well?

You could always have the best of both worlds like me. :) I got my insanely long Genesis 1 and Sega CD 2 combination hooked up and ready for play, and I have my CDX safely tucked away for whenever I may want to use it. I can't wait to travel with my CDX. ^_^ Taking a Genesis and Sega CD across the country in my luggage is all but impossible, but it'll be so easy with the CDX... AND I can use it as a CD player on the plane! You can't beat that. :) Soon I'll be able to enjoy Genesis and Sega CD goodness on both coasts, hehe.

Probably more affordable than the Sega Wondermega and Teradrive, too ;)

I say go for a Laseractive with the Sega Genesis module. Then you can play all your Genesis and Sega CD stuff as well as the Laseractive laserdisc games. And laserdiscs! And if you want to shell out just a bit more you can play your TurboGrafx-16 HuCards and CD games!

    Now we're talkin'.

Of course, if space is an issue, I've just ruined your day.

There's a reminder that I need to keep looking for the PX-7 MSX Palcom games. Saw virtually all of them a few weeks ago, bumped up the auctions but didn't win any :(

Sega CDX has compatibility issues with a very few SCD games, including Mansion of Hidden Souls (crash?) and Android Assault (IIRC, continue doesn't work).

That's hardly enough to stop me from wanting one. Looks like a fabulous unit otherwise.

I have mansion of hidden souls and I have played it on my CDX, no problems.

Another interesting issue is that if you are travelling you can do this...

Have the CDX running on batteries. Hook up the video output to the video input of the Turbo Express TV tuner. Get Sonic CD and BOOM! You have portable Sonic CD on an airplane!!

    Woooo!!! ^_^
