I can get to the level four boss with only losing 1-2 continues.

Then I lose like 5 continues on the boss and die at the beginning couple minutes of stage 5.

Wish you could PRACTICE stages without beating them first. I'd love to be able to practice the level 4 boss without playing through the whole game, or practice/play level 5 without playing the whole game...

    Oi! *raises hand*

Nah, I'm not that talented at this game. I die quite gratuitiously on the bosses of level 3 and 4, and the less said about chapter 5, the better. I just kept playing until my amount of continues raised, and with eight continues in stock, I was able to beat the game. Simple as that.

I have beaten it. Just to let you know though, the ending is pretty lame, it's just a bunch of doves flying around with the credits rolling.

Well, the thing with shooter games like Ikaruga, the R-Type series and the Gradius series is that the ending doesn't really matter, as the main attraction of those games is being in the heat of action.

This said, this is one of my fave type of game, so I reallly couldn't care less if there's a definite number of levels/stages or if it's an infinite loop.

I think anything you work that hard at to beat should have a great enfding. I mean, if so much thought was put into the game, they can take a couple of days to put a good ending in.

Oh, and I hear the ending is different for what level of difficulty you beat it on, and some other factors (anyone?).

I made it to the Level 4 boss or maybe halfway through Level 5...can't remember...

Me too. I just got kind of bored with it after awhile and credit fed so I could put it on the shelf and not think about it again.

The more you play it, the more credits you get - it starts at (I think) 5, and as you build up time it increases to 9, and then it's unlimited.

Yeah I can confirm this, and it also appears in the FAQ at gamefaqs.com. The game starts out at 2 or 3 continues, I've gotten up to 5 based on how much time I've played, actually just over 2 hours...

    Yes, that's correct.

Personally, I still haven't beaten the game, and I've been playing it since the original DC release. I think I could do it if I practiced hard enough, but I just don't have that kind of dedication. The farthest I've gotten on one credit is the beginning of stage 4. But usually, I get slaughtered by either the stage 3 miniboss or the stage 3 boss. I've continued my way to the stage 4 boss a few times, but I refuse to credit feed my way through the game.

One thing to say, though - if you have a way to play this game in TATE mode (vertical), do it! It makes the graphics look much better and everything becomes much easier to see, which also makes the game easier to play.
