Beta accounts are free and as a tester your account will remain free even if the site goes pay in the future.

i will have to check it out and see how it is. i am currently using ign for all of my games. it might suck to put them all over to yours, but if it is good (which I can't vouch for yet), i will definately keep with it, and free membership, i guess i can't go wrong. if i think it sucks, i just won't use it and tell you why i don't like it, but if it rocks, i will let you know as well.

i will be signing up sometime tonight

    Great, thanks.

The benefit for our site over others is that it allows for all types of collections. In the future it will be able to match you with other people who collect similar things over various collection types. It will have features for hardcore collectors who are looking just for a tool to organize things, as well as features similar to Friendster/MySpace for those who are more interested in networking with similar people.

We will also be working intensly on the trading aspects of the site soon. For instance, you can add items as "Wanted" and if another user has them "For Trade", our system will automatically match you and suggest a trade. We also are working on a way to add various items from your collection(s) to ebay without having to fill out all the annoying ebay information each time.

Our system also allows you to backup to an Excel spreadsheet, and in the future will allow you to import from them as well. This makes editing easier, and ensures all your work is not lost should anything ever happen to our site. XML/Text/Html import/export soon too.

    Have fun!

Just signed up for it and started navigating. I like the fact that you have categories for a lot of different things, but the way you enter things into a collection seems like it would be quite time consuming to someone like me who has hundreds of video games, LP's CD's and thousands of comics. Maybe if possible a system that allows you to enter lots (this would especially be usefull for comics) of items instead of just one at a time.

Also the forums need a post editing option, and sigs would be cool. So far though for a new and upcoming site it looks nice. I also really like the feature where you can comment on other users collections.

Thanks for the feedback - we're working on most of the stuff you suggested. The biggest thing for people with thousands of items in their collections will probably be the import tool, which we're working on. It will allow you to edit your collection in Excel or whatever you use, then upload it all at once.

    huh... neato.

I gave it a shot and signed up. I always hated the way IGN was so i never bothered with it. I like this version where i can type in my own comments. I only listed three games to try it out (three different variations of 10-Yard Fight, click on them they all aren't the same).

Once i get some more time i will have to list some more stuff on it.

Looks like a good site, keep up the good work!

    Thanks.

Yeah - the great thing about getting in while it's beta is that when people suggest things to us, we actually do them - unlike other sites that are only worried about making money, we're just worried about making a great site that works and that our users really love. Be sure to post on the forums there if you have any feature requests and stuff.

Wow, that import feature sounds like it will be really great. Like I said before the site is off to a good start, and you sound like someone who is genuinally interested in the collecting hobby, so I wish the best for you and the site and hope it grows into another online community where I can spend time posting hundreds of times

Looks neat. But you need to be able to add items in bulk and post pictures.

I'll tell you, I'm *not* impressed and I haven't even gone to the site. Why? Because I'm being spammed by them:

    Hi - I'm writing because I'm assuming you're a game collector and I'm
currently launching a community site for collectors called Collector Nerd.
We're beta testing the site right now and would love if you (or of your
friends) would test it out for us. Beta accounts are free.

I don't appreciate you using my Digitpress information to spam me for your new site. You posted up here, that should be enough. If I were interested, I would go to your site. Unsolicited commercial email is *illegal*.

That is always the downside to having our e-mail addresses publicized so other collectors can contact us: unsolicited use of these addresses to promote a website or business. It's a bum deal.

For the record, I was not even contacted by this individual to use our list.

I haven't gotten anything, probably because I have my e-mail address set to "hidden" on this board (and every other board too, for that matter). Of course, I always use a secondary address anyway when I sign up for boards and lists. I agree that this guy spamming people is very lame. I don't blame Joe or anyone else for being pissed off.

Pretty sure the email addresses were taken from the Official Collectors List on the main site rather than the boards.

I got a Spam e-mail. I placed it in my Spam folder. Further e-mails from this individual shall bounce from now on. And, I too, do not appreciate it.

(at myself) Damn, once again I should read the entire thread before signing up for something. It sounds like a good idea in theory. I was hoping to find any fellow arcade collectors near Denver so we can swap tech info and ideas. Oh well, shields up and set SPAM filters on kill.

I also got said Spam email. I deleted it. If I get another, then I'll probably delete that too. Doesn't matter to me either way. At least this spam was partially related to something of interest to me.

    Hi.

Yes, I used the collectors list.

I don't consider it spam because that list is posted for the intent of people contacting you, correct? I didn't take emails from anywhere else, and my contacting you was genuinely for the exact reason I stated.

Like I said in the email, you won't get any more emails from me (so adding me to a spam filter is irrelevant). It's not a commercial site. It's free. It's beta. We're testing it. I'm not asking you to buy anything - I don't even have anything to sell. All I want is for relevant collectors to test it.

Sorry if I pissed anyone off - plenty of people who got the email have thanked me and love the site. Like I said, I'm not trying to trick anyone - don't freak out.
