    Default Metal Slug Advance

Came out today! Did anybody pick this one up? I have a feeling this is the only game for GBA I'll buy for quite awhile..

I'm impressed by it. Nice graphics, decent challenge (But not nearly as tough as the Neo Geo originals). The only letdown to me is that it feels more like a platformer than a tried-and-true metal slug game. Still, it's definitely worth a buy.

I picked it up today, but I'm not getting it until christmas.

Oh and I'm pretty sure the metal slug e-cards are just ingame unlockables or collectibles or something, and not actual cards you buy. At least that's what the back of the box made it seem like. :/

I've tried it. i havnt noticed any slowdown as of yet, but I havn't played much. The e-cards are in fact in-game unlockables that give you in-game bonuses.

I miss Fio, though...I'm not really liking the 2 new characters.

This is a common misconception. the cards for this game are IN GAME. Kinda like collecting battle chips in Megaman Battle Network. They refered to them as e-cards and many people mistake that for e-reader cards, which is the official name for nintendo's slide cards for the gba e-reader (I love that thing, too bad they didnt do more with it)

Besides that I think this game is fucking awesome. I had to toss the F word in there b/c I have been waiting for this game for so long and it lives up to all my expecations. I have not played Metal Slug 5, but I have played 1,2,X,3,& 4 and I love them all. I like that the GBA version now has energy for your character rather than one shot you're dead type of deal. I actually think this one gives me much more of a challenge than the Neo Geo games. But I do miss that Neo Geo stick feel. I have a Geo, but i dont own any of the slugs on it. I've got X for PS1 and 3&4 for PS2.

I was also afraid that they were going to change the art and animation style - my biggest fear was that the only thing this would have in common with the others games is the name and that did'nt happen, thank the gods.

I liked the game at first, but in the end I was a bit disappointed by it. I actually find it to be MORE difficult than the Neo titles (with the exception of 3&4), probably because of the GBA's dpad. But I also didn't like the nonlinearity of the levels (I don't mind alternate paths, but having to go every which way to find POWs gets annoying). The fact that enemies respawned when you came back to a screen like in a Megaman title irked me as well. I also thought the level designs were bland and unimaginitive - nothing crazy happened, and I expect crazy stuff in a Slug title. Finally, I didn't like the whole level/save setup. I guess it's good for a portable game, but in this game you can't play for highscore or anything, which sucks.

Still, it's decently fun to play and has much more of a Slug feel than the NGPC titles. In general, though, I'll stick with my MVS carts.

I think I've asked this before but has anyone played both the ngpc and gba versions? I'm sure the gba version is better but how much better?

Yep, I've played all three. The GBA version is better in some ways - the animation and feel is much more like the real thing, and the level design is a bit more arcadey as well, but on the flip side, both of the NGPC titles have more levels. It's hard to compare them, but I think I might prefer 2nd Mission, even though MSA feels more like a 'true' Slug game. The NGPC titles feel more optimized for a handheld, though.

Personally, I think that if they had just ported Slug 1 to the GBA, that would be perfect. It's only a 193 meg cart, so they could probably have fit it in 128 megs with some compression techniques.
