I didn't catch him say "Grand Theft Auto 2." He won another award and knew he was accepting for his performance for San Andreas.Amazingly, GTA: San Andreas won Game of the Year & Samuel L. Jackson was right there to accept the award & thank everyone for supporting - and I quote - "Grand Theft Auto 2."

I was really hoping Katamari Damacy would win the most addictive game award. That would have shocked me.

Same here. Everytime I switched to it there was another rapper performing...It was so boring.Originally Posted by icbrkr
Someone needs to make a real awards show that the actual game makers get to accept the awards.
This was like watching a high school production of the MTV Music Awards.
We saved some guy's life. Killed some vicious murdering lichs and blew up something big. I'd call that a pretty good night.

Holy crap. It's been a while.
Oh, they do-they pulled out the VCS Space Invaders as a sign of early game music on the game music episode of Icons, right before skipping ahead to Earthworm Jim to kiss Tommy Tallarico's ass by hailing the game as the first true example of video game music.Originally Posted by Promophile
Of course, four words can refute that: Koji Kondo. Hip Tanaka. (And that's just for starters.)
Now that I think about it, is there any reason to have an award show for anything (music, movies, games, etc.)? Who gives a shit about what some anonymous assholes think?

I have to say I'm really impressed that no one yet has started cryassing here about such and such game should have won this or whatever. Anyone who watched even five minutes of this sub cable access excuse for an awards show should know damn well not to get worked up at all over anything they saw.
On the plus side, I'm impressed anyone remembered their lines or cues because there had to have been some good wacky tabaccky going around backstage. Shit, I think the only person on the stage that wasn't obviously stoned off their ass was the guy who came up to accept the award for Madden. Oh and Tara Reid managed to keep her Frankenboobies under wraps. That's always a plus.

The results of that show are laughable.
Just, ridiculous.
First of all, Half-Life 2 is GAME of the YEAR. It's absolutely amazing, you can't contest it. And if HL-2 loses, I'm sorry, GTA:SA shouldn't win. But, it is a mainstream show, and a mainstream contest. Therefore, ALL mainstream stuff wins. Fun.
And where the hell is my Metal Gear Solid 3?!

Interesting interview with Marc Edwards from spike. I found this most interesting:
GS: You also wanted to talk about the advisory board, which is very different this year.
ME: Well, we have enlisted an advisory board to help us. First, to determine and identify which categories are the most important categories for our viewers. And second, to help us to identify which games were the games that were most likely to be the games for nomination, and ultimately for voting by the fans as their favorite games, within each category. The nomination board was comprised of industry experts from the development world, from the publishing world, and from all genres of the video game industry, so we wanted to make sure that there was real buy in on the part of the industry overall in terms of what we were doing, and in terms of the categories and the games that were nominated. [Board members include Geoff Keighley of Entertainment Weekly and Business 2.0, freelance writer Noah Robischon, Michel Marriot of the New York Times, and Chris Morris of CNN/Money.]
That advisory board is such shit. Geoff Keighley is such a "safe" watered down videogame journalist. He has no balls whatsoever. If I was on that advisory board I would be so embarrassed. The others listed are marginal at best and have next to no passion for gaming. Fuckin assholes!

Thanks to my DVR I reduced 2 hours of vomit to 15 minutes of nausea. Only time I have ever been tempted to watch the commercials and fast forward through the feature.
Motley Crue was definetley the highlight. The crowd was thankfull too. They needed some release after 2 hours of the most retarded awards show ever.
Call me nuts, but.....
I did'nt watch the show but after reading the awards.....
I AGREE with most of the choices!
GTA: SA WILL get Best of the Year by most people and sites. Half Life 2 is the best PC game, Madden was the best sports game, and Metroid: Zero Mission is a very good handheld game. And others I agree with also.
I will agree MGS 3 and Star Ocean 3 should be up there somewhere, though.
