    Default GBA Ports

Okay am I the only one who is upset at all the PORTS of games that we allready own?
The only original game for a well set series has been Metroid Fusion.
I want a new 2-d Mario and a new 2-d Zelda for GBA!!
Is this too much to ask?

Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.

don't forget about the castlevania games as well.

but a new 2D mario would be kick ass.

hopefully the metal slug game ive been hearing about turns out to be good.

see.. I wouldn't be upset about a complete, perfect port of Metal Slug

But I hear ya on all the SMW1-2, Zelda ports.. Nintendo isn't even trying to please the older market. They better hope no one else jumps on that market in the US.

Doesn't the 4 sword part of the Zelda port count as original game? Anyway I do tire of some ports. But there is one game I really want to get: Kid Icarus.

"Okay am I the only one who is upset at all the PORTS of games that we allready own? "

Not really... I've heard people voice those same complaints. However, I think they'd reconsider if they played Revenge of Shinobi on the Game Boy Advance. It's not a port of the Genesis version, but an entirely new game... and a pretty weak one at that. I'd rather have a solid conversion of a popular home game than a crappy new title designed specifically for the GBA.

Heres another thought. Ports are fine in my book.
1.) some of the old games are hard to come by
    2.) better graphics (sometimes)
3.) you can take em on the road

Now, first of all I think they should sell plain ports for less, not for the price of a new title!
Secondly they shouldnt neglect the development of new and original titles.

Sadly, they dont listen to me...

I'm getting tired of ports, especially since they are being sold at a much higher price than it costs to find the original (common games) in the wild. For instance, why pay so much for SMW, Yoshi's Island, Zelda 3 when the SNES original is a lot less expensive? It's also frustrating because I already have all these games. Again, Yoshi's Island being remade is more understandable than, say Super Mario World, if only because Yoshi's island was a lot less known as a game, being a late SNES release and all.

I'd rather see games that are made in the style of a given classic (ie. Metroid Prime in the style of Super Metroid, Sonic Advance in the style of Sonic 2...) without being an all-out remake.

The Four Swords part of Zelda is really interesting, but ultimately really hard to do because you HAVE to have four people to play it. But there are a lot of dungeons and areas in the four swords so it is worth it I'd say.

Yeah.. as much as I love Zelda A Link to the Past, I simply can't bring myself to play it again in any form as I've played through and finished it about a jillion times already! I mean, I can't even bring myself to play it again on the SNES and like I said, I think the game is PRIMO #1! So yeah it kind of sucks that all we get is the port (and yeah the 4 player is nice, but who am I going to play it with.. my wife? yeah right ) I guess it would be different if the last time I played it was 1993 and I forgot everything.. but I haven't. Last I played it was last year and I know that game by heart. So yeah, count me as a huge fan who for the record will PASS on the GBA zelda. x_x

Right on. If these were inexpensive or put in a multi-cart I wouldn't mind it. Some people would say Nintendo is listening to their older fans who want to see this stuff reissued, but I say Nintendo is just being lazy because they know they can put this stuff out with little effort and sell truckloads at full price.

To be honest I like the re-releases.

I picked up Super Mario World before my summer holidays and played it *a lot*. I think it's definitely worth having a classic made portable. Before that purchase and trip I'd've probably agreed with the anti-release sentiments.

I would like to see more original stuff but I don't pay much attention to the GBA anyway so it doesn't much matter.

Since we are on the topic of GBA ports, NO ONE BUY CONTRA III for the GBA!! It is utter crap. This coming from me, who loves Contra III on the SNES. The port looks and sounds terrible compared to the SNES version, hell, it looks and sounds terrible compared to other GBA games! For a much better Contra/Metal Slug experience on the GBA, get Lilo and Stitch.

That being said, I think ports on the GBA are great if they are done well.

Don't forget with many ports they add new bonuses to the game in the form of mini-games and new things as you progress.

I think that your Stadium Events find sent poor Port off the deep end, Fluke.

As for ports on the GBA, I don't really mind them, as it's nice to take favorites like Yoshi's Island and the first three Phantasy Star games (I hope PSIV is in the works) to the office with me. And it helps that Nintendo is actually developing new titles like Metroid Fusion and Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland along with their glorified re-releases. It's a marked improvement over the days of the Game Boy Color, when the big N seemed unable to release anything but marginally modified classics and various shades of Pokemon.

I just hate the fact that every Mario port on GBA has that damn Mario Bros. game on it. *Barf*

    What a shame.

I've heard soewhere else about the Lilo and Sctich game being in the same vein as Contra. Maybe I ought to check it out.

Though I, too, would like some NEW 2D games, I missed out on the whole 16 bit era, so I'm glad that they're bringing back these old games. However, I do agree that Nintendo is OVER doing it. I have to say one thing, though, and that is for a 32 bit system (I think...) it doesn't look as impressive as it could be....
