Is this just your standard Christmas madness or a genuine rarity? What sets the PS2 version apart from the XBox and PC versions?

My theory is that nobody ever gets rid of it. The standard Metal Gear Solid 2 had already been out for a while, just about anyone who bought Substance knew exactly what they were getting.
Well, this is the 'updated' version of MGS 2 -- the original version was MGS 2: Sons of Liberty. I know I bought the new one when it came out. And this is the same version that's on the XBox now as well as the PS2. So it's more in demand. By compaison, look at what Sons of Liberty is going for.

weird. i thought the game was a nasty letdown. who knew?
I enjoyed MGS2, but I can see how some people wouldn't, there are lots of cutscenes and if you don't like to think much it's very confusing.
It had a short run on the PS2. There were so many copies that were sold just of MGS2 that the Substance was bought by the diehards and those who wanted the extra little bit to the game that it offered. I didnt know or realize that it was selling for so much. I'll have to keep my eyes out for a copy in game stores which arnt going to sell them for a billion dollars.
In the same vein of thought the Document Of Metal Gear Solid is probably getting up there in rarity too.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

This is why ebay is getting rediculous now. After only about 5 minutes of searching I fould about half a dozen places online that had the game both brand new and used for decent prices.
I would just chalk it up to people taking advantage of others during the holiday shopping craze
OMG! ULTRA RARE OOP CIB MGS2: SUBSTANCE PS2! NO RESERVE! SEALED!
What I can't figure out though is why the Xbox version is so cheap on ebay. Wouldn't it have had just as low of a print run, because by the time it came out most people who wanted it already played through the normal ps2 version, and the die hards would have gotten the ps2 version of Substance because didn't that one come out first?

Im sorry, but when I typed in "metal gear substance" on ebay, this came up, and I thought it was pretty funny, especially because it has a higher price than the games.

I found it odd that Substance consistantly scores lower in reviews than Sons of Liberty. This doesn't make much sense considering Substance is the exact same game with a few extra features.
Exactly. I've played both games and Substance IS the better game. Just like the original MGS for the PS can't hold a candle to the Twin Snakes remake.

Same reason why Castlevania 64 scored relatively high in Nintendo Power but Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness got a much lower score (while pretty much no one would argue that LoD isn't the superior game).Originally Posted by Zing
I'm guessing because reviewers are reviewing it on the basis that the game, minus a few extras is already available (for a lot less money too, probably). They're trying to tell people if it's worth buying again for the full price of a new game. In most cases, it's not.
heheh that is pretty hilarious!Originally Posted by SkiDragon
