Default How many Nes games were ported from the arcade

How many games were originally arcade games that were ported over the nes? It doesn't have to be a perfect translation as ninja gaiden was a much different game on the nes than in the arcades. But it was still inspired by the arcade as was Double Dragon and Rygar etc. So anybody know the answer?

I know Battletoads got an arcade version several years after the NES.

I just used the online guide to see how many Arcade ports there were for the NES, and I had no idea that there were that many. I knew of like 20 or so, but man there are a ton of games on that list.

I don't think that list is quite accurate, as it includes a lot of Playchoice-10 games, which can hardly be considered arcade titles for the most part. It also includes games like Pinbot -- not really a 'port' since it's based off a pinball machine.

It is interesting to note how many NES games were changed fairly radically from their arcade incarnations. Rygar and Double Dragon were mentioned above, but Trojan is also pretty different from the arcade version, and Contra made the shift from a vertical screen to a horizontal one and still worked great (actually, I never understood the vertical nature of the arcade Contra - it works well for the waterfall level, but that's about it). And dare I mention the awful port of Shinobi (based off the SMS version, I guess)? The gameplay of Punch-Out is also rather different than the arcade version.

You also can add Bionic Commando, Circus Caper aka Circus Charlie and Lee Trevino Foghting Golf to the list.

Which games were Playchoice-10 games and not arcade games before they hit the NES? I thought we had weeded all of those out long ago.

If you look at the listing for Pinbot it says it's based on the pinball machine. Some people consider that "arcade". Better to cover the bases than leave it out.

As for the games that aren't identical ports like Rygar, Punch-Out!!, Cobra Command, etc... again, best to keep them in since the home version is in fact based on the arcade game. If you were a fan of any of these games in the arcade you'd probably enjoy playing the NES version, and that's why it's been included in the database as a "port".

Well, Captain Skyhawk is one example that I'm fairly certain of.
