    Default Famicons invading game shops.

    There's a local game shop very near my house that i frequent, independently owned. I went in there tonight and they had several of those FC Game systems, a pirate Famicom, for $40. I asked him about it and he showed it to me saying as how the NES's are hard to get working yada yada (he knows about new pin connectors, guess it's just too much work, plus hard to get people to trade them in as I never see them there). anyways, comes with an adaptor to play NES games as well. I guess I just thought it was strange to see brand new pirate systems at my local game shop...I usually only see this stuff at fleamarkets (and that one n64 controller one once at the mall surprisingly).

    Too bad you can't hook up regular NES pads to it, as it might very well be a nice alternative for some folks. I'm wondering if those connectors would fit a Famicom controller tho, don't know never have seen one in person.

    it doesn't have the nintendo logo anywhere, so i assume it has to be a pirate.

    I have one of these. picked it up at a game store in Columbus.

    It's a nice system and not that bad of a deal for a pirate. As stated above, it comes with an adaptor to play NES games. sweet.

    The real Famicom's controllers are wired directly to the system. The AV Famicom (same design as the US toploader) uses the same connector as the NES, IIRC.

    Most Famiclones use DB-9 connectors (same as the Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis), and you can generally interchange these controllers. You just might end up not having enough buttons. :P Can't say I've ever seen any of those things here in Cali, though...

    Yes, exactly. THis console doesn't look to have the correct ports.

    If you live in the St. Louis area, you can pick them up at Game Force. They had stacks of them by the register.

    Seriously though, I've seen similar units. What's the quality like?

    It says right on the box, "- Good Quality Same As CD Game Level" so it HAS to be up there in quality.

    I'd like to get my hands on one of those for some reason, if it has the NES to Famicom Convetor for real.

    I just love how they say "Same Quality as CD game" on the box. XD it's a FAMICOM! XD an NES! not a PLAYSTATION. XD

    @ Querjek-Video Game Express

    @Captain wrong-I would give it a 7maybe 8/10.

    Better than most of the fami pirate systems you will come across.

    I do believe that's a Neo Fami (or a clone of one), which was discussed at some length in this thread.

    I considered getting one of these, but since it's not compatible with NES controllers I opted for an A/V Famicom instead. And I'm very happy with it.

    I would like to see the Neo Fami's Famicom-to-NES converter though. I have a converter that works OK, but it's kind of flimsy and doesn't always make solid contact. From the pics, the Neo Fami's looks more solid.
