I suppose it all depends on what boxes they are and what condition they're in.

I wouldn't have paid that much for those. Not only do I not see anything special but a bunch seem crushed.

Oh well, to each their own I guess

That was a pretty lousy lot in my opinion. For the most part, the boxes were of undesirable games lots of sports/commons .. no or very few quality titles. That, and the boxes were quite rough. I think the only thing worse than paying $130 for that would be paying the $20 in shipping for it.

I believe the box is the most valuable piece of a complete game. Carts are usually cheap, save for a few extreme rarities, and often the manual can be found with the cart without a huge price jump. But once you add in the boxes, then the prices start to jump. It's nice to be able to pick up a large lot of empty boxes like that. I would pay $2 a box if I needed the bulk of them for my collection. Granted if I were bidding, I would hope they'd be in better shape than those pictures show.

The reason boxes are the most valuable piece of a complete game, is because there aren't very many of them. I would think in most cases there more than 10 carts to every 1 box for a game. Most boxes got destroyed, or were tossed in the garbage (gamestop anyone?).

Or they end up in the back of store that you find is closing and you buy a lot of 500 for 70 dollars :P

I agree, it looks like someone sat on each of those stacks. That is alot to pay for the boxes, specially since you are just seeing one side of each. The top flaps could be missing, there could sticker residue, or marker crap all over the front of them. Three photos doesn't show enough for me to consider spending that kind of money on.
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!
