    Default Best percussion game?

The games we are looking at here are PERCUSSION rythm games, and not rythm games in general. That is, games in which your controller is a drum(s) or set of maracas and not a dance pad or mic. My vote has to go to Donkey Konga. Reasons:

Better control (you can lightly tap the drum and it registers, in Taiko you have to whack it really hard.)

More and better songs (Konga = 88, Taiko = 31. Remixed Mario and Zelda themes barely beat out Katamari on the Rocks and Taiko March (w/ Sky Kid theme.))

Sorry Dreamcast fans, but I haven't played Samba, so I can't comment on that.

My vote is for Konga. The multiplayer fun cannot be "beat"

Drummania. No question. 10 releases and counting, hundreds of songs...plus...just LOOK at it.

But if you wanna stick with US releases....I like Taiko's song selection more.

    Default Samba de Amigo baby

We own all 3 of these and enjoy them all, but Samba de Amigo has a style and flair that is most compelling, and for some reason you just look more ridiculous when shaking maracas than hitting drums. It helps to have 2 sets of maracas as well (we do -- the Sega ones, not the cheap 3rd party ones that don't work.) We use this at parties and it is a never fail icebreaker. ...nudge, nudge... . Also I have the import Samba de Amigo 2000 which I stumbled upon at an EB in San Antonio, TX a few years back --- THAT was a stroke of luck!
    47 years young ---
Favorite game genres: 2D games, classic/puzzle, golfing games. No longer collecting games...

Sorry, couldnt resist mentioning that line

The only percussion game I have ever seen is the Donkey Kong one, but it is by far my least favorite. Some kid in wal-mart played it for like a half hour straight and all I think about for the rest of the day was that damn "we will rock you" song by queen, and the way it sounded when some 12 year old kid played it on those bongo drum things

For being the only one I have played so far, Konga wins by default. However, I would simply love to try out Taiko to see if I can fare well on the balls hard Splatterhouse techno mix. Heard it once, scared the hell out of me. I have Yash to thank for that... bastid.

That ain't on Taiko, that's on Technic Beat. Go get it, it's only 15 bucks now.

GRAGH, I had a feeling that I botched that up. I looked up an FAQ about one whole minute after typing my previous post, and I saw no Splatterhouse in the playlist, so that told me that I'm thinking of the wrong game here. Heh... great, two Bemani games to try out now. Peachy. :P

At the least, Taiko DOES have the Genji and the Heike Clans song on it, so that's my prime incentive for wanting to try it out.

Not played Drum Master, but Samba craps on Donkey Konga from a pretty high distance.

I'm not a fan of Donkey Konga as much,
because the percussion aspect doesn't actually make sence.
Why am I drumming along to the vocals??
and the drums are too sensitive, turning the drumming experience to a button-pushing one.
Taiko at least sees you drumming in line with the actual drum track for the most part.
And the sticks and effort required make it a more authentic experience
(coming from someone who's played percussion in orchestras)
however, at the end of the day, my vote goes with samba.
Combination of a great sountrack (that makes sence within the theme of the game),and an immersive controllers that feels proper (and sound proper!)

I haven't had to chance to play any of the choices, so I'll select the Sanbone Trio level on Gitaroo Man. Lots of Percussion there!

I'm voting for Donkey Konga. I liked Samba, and I liked Taiko, but Konga took up the most of my time.

The only thing that irked me MOST about these games was the lack of unlockables. Yeah, Taiko had some songs, and Konga had coins you can use to buy stuff....But I got gold on ALL the songs in med. difficulty mode and didn't get nothin'

    That made me sad.

My vote goes to Taiko Drum Master. I like Donkey Konga, but it's a bit too easy for me. Some of the last selections for Taiko had me beat up. Oni Katamari on the Rocks and Ridge Racer are just impossible, IMO. If it wasn't for the vote selection, then I'd go for DrumMania as well.

I haven't played Samba Di Amigo yet...

Drummania, no contest. But everything after 5th Mix sucked. They should just give up and start producing 5th Mix kits again.

I sympathize. People who play promo stuff like that for hours suck. One girl in Fry's (an electronics store) kept on playing the "ABC" song on Taiko. Agan. Again. AND AGAIN! AND SHE WAS HORRIBLE AT IT! #@!$#@^%$^&(_)!!!
    (Q-Bert taught me that one.)

my vote goes for Taiko Drum Master. I like Donkey Konga and have both versions but some of the drumming just doesn't seem to go with the song. Taiko Drum Master while not quite as easy at first feels more like I'm playing along with the song than the others. Taiko Drum Master could really benifit from a second disc release with some more features and songs.

I feel hitting a drum with your hand is more human nature than hititng it with a stick or shaking a maraca around. When some people are listening to a good piece of music, they will drum out the tune on a table, which I feel goes well with Donkey Konga, because its tuned to perfection. There will be bits when you think "that goes perfectly with the music".
