Default NEW SNES REGION MOD (UPDATED: 02\16\05)

    Hey,

I came up with a completly new BETTER super nintendo region MOD!!! This one will play all games NTSC & PAL (including Mario RPG)!! Just clip off the Lock Out chip completely and then run a wire from pin 10 on the lockout chip (CHIP "U8") to PIN 4 on the chip "U10" and thats it!! It works perfect too!! Here is a screen shot of german PAL smurfs (PAL exclusive) and the MOD I did. This is my idea so if your gonna use these pics or my MOD specifications on any other web page please note where the idea came from (me )

    Cheers & Enjoy!!

    Shawn

Thanks, looks good. Have you tried to play SM RPG for any long periods of time? I know in my modded US SNES you can get pretty far in the game before it shuts off.

    Anyways, good work.

Umm, the whole issue is the initial booting of the game not actual game play as far I I have found. Game plays right through. The only issue is booting the game with a lockout pass as the Mario RPG checks for the lockout chip and it's my way of rerouting around the chip that makes it work right.

This one doesn't need a switch it does all regions with no switch needed.

    Probably a dumb question but....

    When you say
Just clip off the Lock Out chip completely
What exactly do you mean. Is it just one pin you clip or all the pins ?

*edit* Well it looks like you take out the chip completely. Guess you meant exactly what you said.

    UPDATE:

I tried the german version of the PAL exclusive "Smurfs 1" and it is the first game I have to note as being unplayable with this MOD as it still picks up as being NTSC somehow (I don't know...YET) and this is the result: Game starts up fine, you get the opening credits, you choose your language of preferance, and you see the infograms logo and then, a black screen that says: FOR USE ONLY ON PAL COMPATIBLE SYSTEMS. Anyway, here is a pic of the cart so you don't get it if you are using this MOD as it won't work in your NTSC "Silver" MODed system (yet). Sorry to bring the bad news but its better that I find out the hard way then you right? Anyhow, I'm off to see ifI can get this game to run somehow, I will update agian when any significant news comes about, but from now "Die Schlumpfe" German PAL version is the first game to be a no go with this MOD.
