Because apparently they think they can charge your credit card whenever they feel like it, even though I haven't placed any orders with them in over 3 months.
Back in October of last year, I ordered a used Gamecube game. When I received it, it was the right case but the wrong game inside. I called them to set up a return. They did not have a replacement game in stock, so I requested to just get a refund. The rep I spoke with said I would see a refund on my credit card within 48 hours. Nearly three weeks went by and I never saw anything on my (online) credit card statement. I called the credit card company and they informed me that a merchant's refund can take up to 30 days to go through but still wanted me to fill out the paperwork to dispute the charge. I said that was fine and filled out the necessary paperwork and sent it back to the credit card company. Several days later I receive a letter from the CC company saying that have settled the dispute and the charge was taken off my card.
I thought everything was over at that point.
Today, I checked my CC balance and what do I see? A new charge from Gamestop.com for $19.98 with a transaction date of 10/7/04 and posting date of 2/7/05. I immediately called them up and told them to take that charge off my card and explained the entire story of what happened last October. The girl I spoke with sounded like she was in high school and acted a little confused. She wanted me to email her a screenshot of my online CC statement that shows the charge, which I was not too comfortable with but since the actual CC number doesn't appear on the screen I agreed and sent it. Now I am waiting to see what happens but I plan on having to get the credit card comapny involved again too.
So keep your credit cards away from Gamestop.com folks!!!
