And which movie is that, anyway?
A few:
Donnie Darko = OutRun
Terminator 2 = After Burner II, Arch Rivals
The Replacement Killers = Altered Beast
Cloak And Dagger = Cloak And Dagger
And don't forget Joysticks either.
"I am a cipher, wrapped in an enigma, smothered in secret sauce."
And the most obvious presence of a real-life cabinet in a movie (and one of my fave movies AND one of my fave games): Galaga in Wargames...
can't buy me love
There's always the "Doom II" arcade cabinet in "Grosse Pointe Blank."
-A Boy
Hmph.
Hasn't been a lot of action here for a month or two, but I'm gonna ask anyways. In The Goonies, in the beginning of the movie (when they do the cop chase scenes), one of the kids is in what appears to be a pizza shop/arcade. Anyways, when he runs up to the window to watch the cop chase, there's a video in the background, and I could never figure what it is. Maybe just a generic cab? Also, one of my personal favorite movie scenes is in Tron when they are walking throught the arcade. I just love that scene, looking at all the games....very cool.
Somewhere online I saw a deleted scene from Goonies that had the 2 girls playing some arcade games. Not sure what they were playing though.Originally Posted by shawnbo42

Okay, well thanks to the magic of laptops, DVD software and screen captures, I just snapped the following two screenshots:
In this short scene, Chunk is standing at a game (picture 1) and sees the police chase drive by outside the window. He runs to the window and smashes his pizza and shake on the window. In the background of that picture, you can also see a game.
The game in the first scene is not facing the window like the game in the second picture. Assuming the game was not rotated between shots, that means there are (at least) two games in this little pizza joint.
Anyone know what #1 is?
Picture 1: Screen reads "Player #1. Your score is xxxx. You have 1 life left." It has a four way joystick and two buttons on each side. You can see a sliver of the side art as well.
Picture 2: Right off the bat you can tell it has a Track and Field marquee. The control panel looks similar because it also has red and white buttons, but after fiddling with the brightness/contrast in Photoshop I don't see a joystick on the CP (which of course Track and Field wouldn't have) which makes me think that these are in fact two separate games.
Here are the same pictures after a little Photoshop tweaking.
Also note that mystery machine #1's cab is blue on the left side, and red on the right? Or perhaps just the inner area of the cab is red, and it's totally blue on the outside?
In Robocop 2, Robo went to an arcade in pursuit of a young vandal, and for some reason, I couldn't see most of the marquees on the machines, but there was one that was very noticeable: Midnight Resistance. I wonder if Data East intended for that cab to be noticed? After all, they did make the two Robocop arcade games. Heh... food for thought.
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

I *think* the goonies cab is Cliffhanger.
edit: apparently it is. http://www.mameworld.net/movies/
Hm, they have no mention of the Track and Field cabinet. I'll e-mail them.
Thanks for the legwork guys! I knew if we put our heads together we could solve that one.
EDIT: Hah, check out the picture of the cabinet on KLOV. It's blue on the outside, red on the inside (just like in the movie) and has the woman's face on the sideart as well.

EDIT2: E-mail bounced. Oh well.
Thanks to all for solving that little mystery for me. I have often wondered if that Cliff Hanger cab was just a generic box, or a "real" machine. Sadly, although by the KLOV, the game looks pretty good, I don't ever recall seeing one at ANY of my local arcades way back when. (probably why I didn't recognize the machine). Oh, well, mystery solved....now, on to the next puzzle!! (when I find one)
The Robocop 2 arcade had a lot of Data East games and the non data east games got smashed by Robocop when he was beating up the vandal.
Sorry Ryan, but your girlfriend is in another school.
